To those using Blow Dryers....

Mook's hair

New Member
Hi Ladies,

I want to buy a new blow dryer but I want it to be a good one.
I used to use the Vidal sassoon the one that's kinda shaped like the letter F but one day I broke it in my new growth and went out and bought a Gold & Hot, the one that's shaped like a gun. It works fairly well but, it's a bit large & cumbersome for me.

I know most of the ladies in here are against blow dryers, but, for those who use them. Please share your info.

What kind do you have?
- Do you like it?
What kind have you had a bad experience with & why?
What kind are you curious about?

What's the deal with Ionic Dryers?
Does anyone know of a Good one that is small?

Thanks Ladies.

I have that vidal sassoon one that i think you mentioned. the ionic 1875. I really like it. I'm actually on my second one because I broke the midsize comb in my new growth too. what sucks is that you can't even buy the attachment replacements anywhere. That sneaky little devil on my shoulder made me really contemplate going to the store and stealing the ones from a new box. I really like that one because it's small and handy and gets my hair really straight before a flat iron, but I flat iron maybe once every three or four months.

I am still trying to figure what's special about ionic dryers...
I think it's probably just all in our head that it's something different. I don't know.
I used to use a Gold n' Hot, but now I boycott that brand because it's what I used to use when my hair was badly damaged.

As far as one I'm curious about, it's the dryers with the circular comb attachments. I wonder what their benefits are...

What kind do you have? Gold n Hot 1875 ionic w/comb attatchment
- Do you like it? love it. the comb attatchment is well made. I dont see that bad boy ever breaking. It is really smooth too so it doesnt cause any breakage when blow drying either. :drunk:
What kind have you had a bad experience with & why? umm i dont remember the brand but it was "silvery" and the silver stuff kept flaking off. I gave it to my suitemate and bought the Gold n Hot
What kind are you curious about? The Sedu
What's the deal with Ionic Dryers? I dont know, i guess they are better, i think it has to do with the water beads on your hair and retaining moisture.

ummm no, sorry. wish i could help.

I have a Conair- cheapie one from Target, don't really like it, JUST bought the Gold 'n Hot hatchet-style one. I used to have that Vidal Sassoon a long time ago & I liked it, which is why I bought the same style.
ETA: The Gold 'N Hot is 1875 watts, but I don't think it's ionic. It came with 3 attachments. I used it today (hood dryer is broken) & it worked really well.

I have never had a bad blow drying experience, but in the last 6 months I have only blow-dried my whole head 3 times- I used to blowdry every week, but now I just do my roots.
- I don't see any problem with medium heat & a comb or brush attachment
What kind are you curious about?
Chi Rocket w/ the comb attachment
What's the deal with Ionic Dryers?
Supposed to smooth the cuticle better & make the hair less frizzy
Does anyone know of a Good one that is small?
Like a mini? They have CHI & other brands in travel sizes

MizzDebbi,
Chi Rocket w/ the comb attachment - I was just reading some really bad reviews about all Chi Blow Dryers but specifically, the one you mention.

Apparently, they are very cheaply made and the internal & external parts break & malfunction easily.

Also, They get very hot, in a bad way.

FHI Nano 1900 - comes with concentrator and diffuser. It has 3 temperature controls and 3 speed controls and is extremely lightweight.

Conair Pro Thermal Ceramic Twin Turbo - Sally's

Very much. This dryer has more settings on it than any other dryer I've seen so far. And it's ceramic, so you get those ionic benefits--and it's $27!! I've had it a long time. It's pretty light weight. I use it weekly to blow out my roots after a roller set.

What kind have you had a bad experience with & why?
Any non-ceramic blowdryer just fries, because of the type of heat it creates (non-infrared heat).

What kind are you curious about?
Because I am a chronic PJ whose a sucker for hair technology, I want a tourmaline/ceramic dryer. I am obsessed with looking at the FHI Nano Pro 200 (retails for $195, but I've seen it for $160). It doesn't have nearly as many settings as my Conair, but I still want it. I think the performance of the tourmaline will be worth it. I would not throw the Conair out, though. Not until it dies. And I'd still buy another one. :yep:

They dry the hair differently and faster. Old school blow dryers heat the water off the hair to dry it--Ionic dryers do that, but they displace the water electronically from the hair too, so not as much heat is needed to dry the hair, ie not as much damage. And it's a different kind of heat (infrared).

I've read those reviews, too. But, honestly, the girl that straightens my hair from time to time uses one & she's never burned me.

Ion Conditioning Ionic-Ceramic Tourmaline Dryer
Dries extremely fast. Think I did my whole head in 15 minutes. Comes with diffuser and concentrator. Hair isn't frizzy and has a shine.

There are also smaller Ion ones on the sallbeauty.com website.

i go thru blow dryers like crazy. i have to get a new one like every year. my favorite is the conair ionic 1875 w/ comb. dries hair real soft. i use that or vidal sassoon. my least favorite was andis-worst. burnt out, left hair lookin brittle

Ceramic/Ionic Turbo 4100 Hair Dryer 2000 Watts by Pro-Tools The Professional's Choice.

-8speed/heat setting
-Instant cool shot button
-Removable filter for longer life
-Straightening pic attachment
-2 concentrator nozzle attachments
-Professional long life AC turbo motor
-Ionic function

I love it! I tried various kinds (can't remember all the name's..I have a BelsonPro 1875 that was good but the one I use now is better for me) Dries my hair really quick and gets it really straight w/o the high setting and I don't have to flat iron afterwards. Hope this helps :)

I was just going to ask if there was one with a strong comb attachment. I think the real reason I gave up on blow dryers the last time was that I bought and broke 2 in one month. I was just like 'forget it, then'.

Ladies, thank you for all of your responses, this is very helpful.

I have that Gold & Hot and I busted up the comb in the first 3 months. I split the seam and broke some teeth. And no, I'm not even heavy handed when blow drying, this hair is just a mean ol'Lion!

I wish someone would make a comb attachment using the same material as those shower combs. That's what I want to own!

Hey Mook:hiya:! Is this the dryer you are talking about cause that comb is very strong, its not like the hard plastic ones. Its exclusive to this dryer. Oh yeah, I said the dryer was Ionic, its actually Tourmaline.

Sorry I had nothing to add Mook. I'm so proud of you!!! I know I say that a lot. I'm glad you ran this thread so I can find a decent blow dryer too!

I use a Conair Infiniti. I believe it is ceramic/tourmaline dryer. Not sure what that means other than its supposed to be better for your hair. I like it. I purchased it mainly because the nozzle attacment "snaps" on as opposed to the ones that overlap the dryer and keep falling off. I've had it for about six months and it still works great but the PJ in me is on the lookout for another one!

:perplexed Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks....I don't think I blowdry enough to invest in a CHI one, but they seem nice.

The Pibbs Twinturbo 2800 1700 watt Coldmatic Hair Dryer is a great blow dryer.

Paul Mitchell has a new one that breaks up water molecules and infuses them into the hair. I had it used on me and it worked well.

I just bought a Yellowbird from Sallys and it works for me. I got my hair cornrowed at a natural hair and the girl blew through my hair in maybe 10 minutes and it wasnt too hot. I don't blowdry often so it works for me. I have 2 other blowdryers but the combs on both got broken so I don't use them. My stylist uses a CHI on my hair at the salon though.
