i promised my self no hot comb. i'm puttin' it away till sept and hiding my pressing cream form myself. i have to. but i took out my interlock's yesterday and now i'm sad.

they were so cute too, big soft curls with a mix of 1b and 33 color(kinda redish brown highlights) i felt all pretty. and now i have just my short fro. ( think n'bushe wright from platnium) i hate that my hair is so short, but if i get it done now i won't have the money to get a pretty style for my school end of the year celebration/dance. my hot comb and ponytails are callin' me. ya'll every feel like that or am i just crazy.

hey sis, take heart. Staying away from pressing (and heat in general) is sooo good for your hair, it will be thanking you for it! Give your hair plenty of TLC and you'll see the rewards with time. Work with your hair, not against it.

Short natural hair is pretty! Been there myself, so I'm a little biased

Don't worry about it, you can keep your hair natural and still wear a phonytail-curly one and you can keep your hair moisterized and protected underneath. I'm plannig on getting a curly/natural one and a straight one, one so I can use it and protect my hair in the summer and take a break from styling, braids, etc...
If you keep up with your regime by Sept your hair will amaze you in haow much progress it has made espeacially when you straighten after a long while.
do a search on phonytails and baggie, that should give you all the info you need.

ineedmoney,
I know exacly how you feel. When my hair is not braided or in a weave, I usually hotcomb it and put on a phonytail and go! And I just bought a great ponytail. But sadly
cry3.gif
the last time I hotcombed my hair, I am positive I burned it. You could smell it, even after I washed it, it still smelled like burnt hair. Not to mention the breakage. I know its hard, 'cuz if you have short hair like me, theres no way u can pull it back into any kind of ponytail, not even my afro puff. But do yourself a favor... leave the hotcomb alone!!

just my 2 cents
learn from my mistake!

(((((ineedmoney)))))

girl keep ya head up coz heat is not the answer moisture is!! so keep yo hair moisturised, join the summer grow out challenge and b4 long u'll be able to pull yo hair into a bun and protect it for free (cant wait till i get there)

i'm just miss my pretty weave. but i wore a wrap today so that helps. i might have braids tomarrow so i don't know

good for u coz i kno this lil devil on my shoulder is what tells me to brush my hair 3times a day so i can admire how soft it is but i tell it to shut up coz all its tryna do is slow me down from reachin my hair goal which i'm happy to say is only an inch away

Have u ever tried this style??

I am a frequent rider of the natural to relaxed rollercoaster. When I'm natural and my hair is about 2-3 inches in length I do a straw set. I used to use gel to do it but i'm positive you can do the same style with a good leave-in and your favorite essential oil. The technique similiar to the twist out method that I use now but u need real straws for this.

* wash your hair
* section each piece and apply the leave-in + oil. You can try a light gel if you're brave.
* do a double strand twist on that section of your hair
* apply the end paper and roll the straw on to your hair like you are doing a spiral curl.
* secure the straw with a long bobby pin
* You can air dry, sit under the drier, or do 1/2 hair dry and half drier.

If you do this style and your hair doesn't look good, I'll do your next set of braids myself

... ok maybe not. I live all the way in CT

. But give it a try none-the-less. You don't have anything to lose. By the way, the style would last atleast a week - especially when my hair was shorter.

good luck & happy growing

Hey -don't worry! I'm sure your hair looks cute with or without the styling...

I think natural styles look great -try washing your hair and teasing your hair into that funky textured 'fro when its still wet. Works everytime...
Have you ever thought of trying locs? *

alma- i was thinking about a straw set but i didn't know that it would look right on natural hair. i always heard about relaxer-wearers doing that. hmm maybe i'll go get some straws!

ineedmoney-
I am wearing a lil' afro now too and it has taken some getting used to. But the truth is, beauty comes from within you, not from your hair. A confident self-assured woman makes anything look good. So I say, hold your head up and rock your fro and before you know it you will have lots of growth. Also, do you accessorize your fro (flowers, clips, headbands, etc.)? This keeps me from getting bored with mine.

I feel so bad for you suffering the way you are.

Have you thought about maybe considering
I. Looking on the internet for natural hair styles (maybe you'll find one that will suit you until September....or
II. Looking for books on natural styles at Barnes & Noble...or
III. Occassionally giving your hair a very light press on a low setting...maybe this will help even though it's against what you are trying to do.
I hope my ideas help. Good luck

I am natural too and could not do the short hair. Why? I dont think it suits me. Everyone else likes it but I was not feeling it. I wear jeans and sneakers a lot and a short hair style with my style of dress would give me...let's just say a look that does not represent who I am. Getting my hair lightly pressed on Friday was such a good thing for me becuase I can put me hair in a tiny, tiny ponytail or wear it in a short curl style. The stylist used Dudley's creme press and then after the light pressing rolled my hair with a curling iron but in big curls. The next morning my hair looked so cute. The stylist told me that light heat on the hair is okay so keep on pressing if that is what you feel most comfortable with. If you are in NY try some natural hair care salons. What about trying coils? I might try that
