Can having healthy hair make it appear somehow lighter?:ohwell:

I read somewhere that damaged hair cuticles appear lighter, particularly on the ends. Well....I am worried because it seems like as soon as my hair has gotten much healthier it has also gotten lighter--not on the ends but everywhere. Not really obvious like I've had a dye job, but when I go outside in the sun you can tell. Its what my mom used to call "natural highlights" and she always thought it was when hair was healthy...lol...of course this is also the woman who would grease my hair and fry it with a pressing comb every week of my life til I was 12...:nono:

Anyway, what do yall know about this? Does this mean my hair is damaged or healthy? It is kind of pretty...a nice deep chestnut brown under certain lights. In regular light it still looks black. I would take a pic, but it would just look black and you wouldn't be able to see what I'm talking about.

TIA

Well I know the sun can affect hair color on people. Do the lightened strands feel different than the regular dark ones?

No, they all feel the same. But trying to keep them moisturized in this hard @$$ winter is a full time job...lol

Mine is like the same texture (natural)...I don't do really different to then I've been doing, just letting it grow out. But if you stand back and look at my head, it's like a splashed a slightly lighter color all over the place...

teacherjess, can I post a pic please? I'm so glad you brought this up. I've been puzzled, and if this is an indicator of damage...I wanna STOP IMMEDIATELY!:spank:

Yes, Lady Fayard! Plz post a pic. The way you described it sums it up PERFECTLY!!! That description (bolded) is exactly what my head looks like:yep:
Glad to know its not just me. If this means damage, I've got problems!
Also, I am not using honey currently in my reggie

I'm not using honey either! I ruled out the usual culprits like citrus juice...Is it sun? Is it... *GASP* sun DAMAGE?

Help me...HELP ME PLEASE!

At first, I thought since my hair is short..my scalp was showing though a bit, but when I took a pic..It looks like a paint splatter:

look familiar teacherjess?

I'm getting golden/coppery highlights around my face but I know for a fact that this is where I will be seeing gray hair coming in eventually. Heck - some of them have already turned gray.

Not sure if this is your situation though

Just chalk it up as your hair is just turning lighter. Even if it is the sun--that doesn't necessarily equal "damage". It's a natural occurrence. If your hair doesn't feel different, or isn't acting different, no split ends--it's not damage. No stress.
