to do about fried ends, are they split ends too?

I'm not sure if they're split also but a good trim will help your ends look thicker and healthier.

Look very closely at the ends of your hair. If you see individual hairs that are split in two, you have split ends. There is nothing you can do to "repair" split ends. One thing I do for my ends is use 911 Emergency leave in conditioner, then seal them with jojoba oil. If, after doing this, your ends are still fried looking, you should probably get a cut and start fresh.

Also, they don't necessarily have to be split on the ends only. They can be split mid-strand.
