Are you planning on protective styling? Would it be easier to do protective styles if you kept the length? That would be the only reason why I would not cut.

I think your ends look a little stringy. Maybe you should do a little cut...Your hair will still be on your back, but I think in order for it to grow healthier, you should cut a little...

Cutting your hair does not make the rest of it magically grow healthier.

ETA: OP I actually think this may be a case of your shorter hairs needing to catch up with the longer ones so that you have more thickness. I wouldn't cut right now. I'd protective style and focus on retention and in a few months reassess.

I agree, if you plan to wear it up (ps) don't cut yet. If you do plan to trim, do a mini trim as your hair continues to grow.

I'm sorry, I was just giving advice. I was just saying that given that she keeps up her hair regimen and continues to take care of her hair, then it will continue to grow. I never said that it would grow magically healthier.

I think you should mini-trim the thin ends gradually as your hair grows in. It will make PS easier (as the posters above me stated), and it would be less traumatic for you.

And stop slacking on the scarf usage! :)

I Agree with this.

I say, grow for a while with protective styling, and then cut or trim.....BUT it's your own decision..don't pick base on what we say......your hair, u decide.....

I know. Don't mind me, sometimes I type faster than I think. I really wasn't trying to be snarky.

In my opinion...cut it. I like my hair to be really blunt cut and i know that is not as important to other people. but i would rather have shorter, thick, healthy looking hair than longer stringy, thinning-looking hair.

I dunno about the short hairs catching up with the long ones. i wasn't aware hair grew that uneven. if u plan on wearing it down at all i think taking a few inches off would make it look better. and i always feel better with a fresh haircut. but again...that's just me.

It depends on how you want to keep your hair styled....if you can are able to keep your hair in protective styles for a few months i would do that and just do that while keeping up with weekly DCing...but if you are someone who wears their hair down mostly (like me) then i would definately cut it to your Jan 08 length... because you dont want to keep manipulating your hair with those ends because it will just break off until it starts breaking the healthy hair.

The rest of your hair looks really healthy and shiny...

I Agree with this.
me too. I had HORRIFIC deep layers cut into my hair and the last time i straightened my hair it looked deathly thin. I thought i was balding or something was seriously wrong. About six months later, I straightened my hair again and its back to it's old self. I realized that the longer layers had grown way down my back, while the deep layers that were cut from behind my ears up were MUCH shorter than the back (nape) which was way down my back. Now that the "middle" hair has "caught" up to the bottom layer hair, when it's down it's full. I hope this makes sense. I say trim a little, because the hair looks a little damaged, but i think braids, kinky twists and lots of moisturization for a while will help get you back on track.

I agree with the others. Only do a big trim if you wear your hair down often. If you rock it curly or in protective styles, just baby your hair until it catches up.

I had a horrible setback last summer where my entire middle broke off about three inches shorter than the sides. I did very small trims until my hair caught back up. I just did the cut to even it out last week. The second picture is what it looked like in June 08'.
