Tiny Corkscrews?

Hi. So I've been growing my hair out natural for... awhile now (maybe January or Feb? Possibly earlier than that). I'd just been kinda diy-ing it off of RusticBeauty's youtube videos, then I found this place. I cut off all the relaxed and then overbleached stuff gradually, dyed it back to brown... and so now finally my hair is pretty much 100% natural.

With that background, my question is this: I am trying to flat iron my hair this morning to do a length check, and there's all these tiny little corkscrew curls in it! I wear a wig when I'm out and about, and I co-wash and do apHogee's 2-minute reconstructor every so often. I haven't combed it in awhile; just run my fingers through it after a shower and that's it. What is it doing? Is it dreading? I'm kind of fond of the little screws, and I hope that putting heat on them (v. low heat setting on the flat-iron) won't kill them, or that I'm doing something bad to my hair.

I usually wear my hair in a fro. When I straighten it, I have to stretch out my hair first
I usually do a detangle and a section my hair off for about 10 2 strand twist while it wet.

Once it dries it easier to straighten it.

But my coils always come back once I wet it.

the only they wouldn't return is if I my hair got heat damaged

So the corkscrew things are likely the coils? This is pretty much the first time in my life that my hair hasn't been relaxed. I took some pictures with my phone but they came out too small/bad.

Aww...you sound so cute. Yes, those corkscrew thingies are coils. If they're very tiny, they're probably 4B.

This sounds like your true texture. You can flat iron your hair if you stretch it properly beforehand. Also make sure you use a great leave-in and heat protectant to help against heat damage.
