:D :D I know that someone starts one of these threads every so often but tonight I wanted to say thank you to all the ladies that I have received wonderful tips from and share some of the things that worked best for me when I was starting out with LHCF.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize before LHCF I didn’t even own any Moisturizer

Coconut and EVOO are my best friends

Less is more

Expensive is not always better buy the product that works for you even if it is cheap

Baggie those ends if you want to keep them

I don’t need to pay someone with short, broken off hair, eating lunch, talking on the phone and arguing with her boyfriend all at the same time to do my hair!!!

Comb only once a week with soaking wet hair ( I won’t even dare to put a towel anywhere near my hair any more)

My hair loves to be washed twice a week

So Ladies how about you? What worked for you when you started out with LHCF

Happy Growing

What works for me:

Taking vitamins

Distilled water spritz after washing

Clarifying before deep conditioning

Regular protein treatments -- I never used to do these, now I don't know how I ever did without them

Regular small trims

Moisturizing twice a day

This is what is working for me:

Deep conditioning with every shampoo (twice a week).:)

keeping my ends moisturized..cannot stress this enough!;)

stretching relaxers 12 weeks max.:p

The key for me is just to be consistent:grin:

Washing my hair twice a week 1 time w/ poo and another w/ CO.

Vitamins

Aveda Sap Moss Shampoo, Conditioner and Super Oil concentrate

Carol's Daughter (the products I just bought)

Redken Extreme Shampoo, Conditioner, leave treatment and the deep fuel

My Trueceramicpro flat iron

Deep conditioning my hair once a week

Aphrogee treatment every 6 weeks

Bagging my ends every night

Moisture, moisture, moisture!

  1. Moisturizing & Sealing
  2. Deep Conditioning
  3. Cowashes
  4. Oils - Amla, Vatika, Hot 6 and WGHO
All these things have helped my hair to appear thicker, fuller and a little more luxurious and that has been my initial goal since becoming a member of this forum. With more time and patience I hope my hair becomes much longer than my current shoulder length (would love to be BSL).

Taking my vitamins
Wash/dc 2x weekly
Protective Styles/Baggying
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize hair EVERYDAY
Always use a wide tooth comb ALWAYS
Always wear a silk scarf
Do not towel dry hair
No heat (for me) grows my hair fast

No Heat
Air Drying
No Moisturizer (hey, it works for me! )
Roller Setting on dry hair for nice hairstyles without heat
Not using oils in my fine hair
Washing every two weeks (no more dry hair!)
Wearing wigs daily (length retention)
Using Surge Daily (stronger thicker hair)

  • Never combing dry hair, daily spritzing w/ water.
  • Oils - Amla, Coconut, EVOO
  • Moisturizing 2x day (even when I don't feel like it)
  • Baggying
  • Pre-Poo
  • Washing 2-3x weekly
  • Air-drying
  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Documenting progress

What works for me:

perm rods for roller sets

V05 Strawberries and Creme Conditioner and Shampoo

Pantene Pro V Relaxed and natural setting and wrap lotion spray

Aussie Three Minute Miracle

Something Special Leave In Conditioner

Air Drying

Using no heat and throwing away all curling and flat irons

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!!

Drastic reduction of heat

Protecting the hair and leaving it alone

Combing correctly (from ends to roots with a wide tooth comb)

This is a great thread.
Cannot live without these:
JBCO, Amla, EO's, CW, sillicon Mix, Lasio Lasio, Lenzie Req and
Salerm biomarine for moisture. Sealing the ends with oil is the key to sucess.

1. Strenghtening hair with Bi-weekly henna treatments, w/1 tbsp avocado oil in the mix, and post-henna conditioning (tropical avocado, OR carrot oil hot oil treatment) to avoid dryness
2. Deep-conditioning on alternate weeks
3. Daily Mane & Tail conditioner as a leave-in
4. Ion Anti-frizz, Infusium, and Fantasia IC Moisturizer w/aloe as leave-in's
5. home-made shea/mango butter w/oils on my ends
6. hiding my hair under Phony buns and phony ponys SANS damaging combs
7. minimizing manipulation--using very soft bristle brush for smoothing the front w/buns only; and using fingers more and brushes/combs less (gotta get me a bone comb..) AND watching out for combs in fake hair that cause breakage
8. Occasional protein treatments (DRC-28 and/or Aphogee)
9. Infrequent/minimal use of heat styling appliances (other than hooded dryer for deep-conditioning)
10. Creme rinse washes /African Pride Cream Rinse
11. Good diets & vites

Baggy Method -Every Single Night! The best thing ever for my ends
Light Moisturizing every 3 days(I've learned my hair does not like to be weighed down)
MTG 2x a day
Occasional Protein treatments-Aphogee
Cold water rinses
GNC HairNourish Vit's
4 bottles of water a day
NTM PRODUCTS on moisturize and wash days

I cosign with all of these. (except I DC once a week.)
*I would also add taking my hair in my own hands and fully educating myself on my hair.
*Not being afraid to try out new products. This is how I find the stuff I Love!

These are the techniques I have acquired and follow religiously:
  • Daily moisturizing
  • No more curling iron
  • No brushing
  • Light protein as a pre-wash conditioner
  • CO washing
  • Deep conditioning after washing
  • Oils, oils, oils
  • Wearing a satin scarf or bonnet at night
  • Baggy method
  • Protective styling

-only combing in shower, w/ wide comb

-cheapy CON on dry hair, smooth-bun-go

-protein Tx's (esp. for thin hair)

-ACV rinse after buildup's (clarify)

-no heat

:rosebud:CONES
:rosebud:

-lite products for thin hair (all products lite)

-sealing w/oil

-MTG

-vitamins- top 3-spirulina, msm, multi, biotin

-jehri curl look (for moisture), until BSL

What works

Washing and deep conditioning every week
Rollersetting
no direct heat
moisturizing every day, especially my ends
Octopus clips- perfect for short hair protective styling, makes it look like I have a some sort of bun
Aubrey Organics conditioners
Waiting atleast 8 weeks for a relaxer
Hardcore protien treatments every 5-6 weeks, mild ones every other week or so
Taking all of vitamins and protien shakes
Henna

What works for me:

*Ionic, ceramic, and tourmaline heat (my BaByliss and my Solia) with phenomenal heat protectants (such as Nexxus Heat Protexx, JOICO Reconstruct Leave-In Protectant, and CHI Silk Infusion), lets me run my comb or brush through as many times as I want without breakage and helps proteins from products such as Silk Infusion penetrate at a maximum
*Washing and deep conditioning twice a week
*Moisturizing and sealing with oil (usually Dabur Amla Lite) daily
*Using some form of protein weekly (especially on wash days)
*Silicones

Lines that work for me (several products consistently):

1. Garnier
2. Motions
3. CHI

Sticking to the products that work.
Washing and conditioning 2x a week.
Really sticking to the products that work for me right now. I don't have much of a desire to keep trying products that everyone raves about.
Consistency...

What works for me:

1. Shampoo once a week, condition wash 2 days a week.

2. Conditioning with Aveda Sap Moss Conditioner. Deep conditioning with Cholestoral or Elast QP DPR-11. Leave-in conditioner Nexxus Humectress.

3. Conditioner washes

4. Sealing with jojoba or EVOO

5. ACV rinses

6. wearing medium sized twists for 2 days, a twist out for 2 days, then twist out puffs for 3 days. this keeps my style changing but my hair is not being too manipulated.

7. MOISTURIZING TWICE A DAY!

8. Only combing my hair with a wide tooth comb once every 2-3 weeks. Inbetween I just finger comb.

What she said.
I agree with this as well. Airdrying gives me more breakage then when I blow dry. I did learn alot from LHCF though. Using products with cones in them, Minimal heat, moisturizing hair often, paying attention to the ends of hair, Just recently the baggying method (Thank YOU). :)

-Protective hairstlyes are my bestfriends..lol.
-Adding evoo to my conditioners does wonders for moisture for my hair.
-Baggying is NOT for me. I did it three times and there is minor breakage each time due to over moisturizing. It is way too much for my hair.
-Deep conditioning 1-2 times a week is a necessity for my hair.
-Low maniupulation works and has aided retaining my length/ends. I only comb when I wash my hair and there is a conditioner in my hair.
-Washing my hair in braids has really helped minimize manipulation and stop breakage.
-Moisturizing and sealing w/an oil 1-2x a day is very good for my hair.
-Moisturizing conditioners w/protien in them help strengthen my hair.
-Eggs in my conditioners are great for strengthening my hair.
-Airdrying my hair is really good for my hair. A good moisturizing deep condition + Profectiv Breakfree as my leavin con helps w/my hair feeling sooo soft and not dry as I had experienced prior to coming to this board.

Hey Britt!

This is pretty much my regimen except that I wash and set once a week (alternating with the Dominican salon doing them every other week the monday before I head to work)
I either use the Elucence product line or Design Essentials line.
I use Lacion lacio to set.
I have modified my regimen this year to make it very simple.
No extras so hopefully no setbacks :)

Hey MissJetsetter,
I see that you got a major cut for 2007. Did you just want a change??? The pics on your website are beautiful by the way.

Hi Caplush,

Thank you for the compliment. I winded up having some breakage last year from a certain product so it kind of messed up the appearance of my hair, so to speak. I'm obsessed with having perfect hair so I cut it to the length of the excessive breakage.. I have a detailed pictorial in one of the blogs on the site.

:)
