Time it takes your hair to get back to "normal"

Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal\"

Following a shampoo? Fellow LHCFers, I'm really beginning to dread wash day, the day after, and the day after. My problem lies in getting my moisture content back up to where it should be, so I won't have unnecessary breakage. See, this is what happens: I sometimes do a pre-poo treatment, shampoo my hair with either Pantene or NTM, follow up with a conditioner Panetene or NTM and air dry. Before my hair is completely dry, I apply a leave-in (either Infusium or NTM), then my Softsheen Gold activator followed up with some blended oils. At this point, my hair feels moisturized. I wrap my hair and go to sleep. The next morning, my hair feels dry and crunchy. I spend another 30 minutes applying more Softsheen Gold & oils to put my hair in a bun. At the end ot the day, I take my bun down, and some areas of my head are dry and crunchy. WTF? I then apply more Softsheen Gold before I go to bed, and the next morning, it's moisturized. I do this for 2 - 3 days (applying Softsheen Gold every night) until my hair is well moisturized and acting right.

What's the problem?

I DO know one thing - I have hard water.

Somebody help me, help me please!!!

Girl, I feel you!

BUMP

That's exactly how my hair behaves and I don't know if there's a way to speed up the time (getting back to normal).
That's why i do more conditioning washes these days. Only when really really really soiled/built up etc. do i wash with shampoo...actually, i shampoo like biweekly although i hate it so much i might continue with weekly CW's and use shampoo once a month

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

Mines take a week. Its really depressing sometimes and I am constantly trying to find things that will work (putting moisture back in) much quicker.

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

Hmmm...my hair feels its best after a fresh wash. Maybe there's some ingredient in one of your products that isn't agreeing with your hair
scratchchin.gif
Is there alcohol in any of your products?
Then again, it really may just be your water. I know a lot of ladies here have noticed marked improvement after getting a shower filter. If that's not something you're willing to invest in right now, you may try doing a rinse with distilled water after washing your hair and see if that helps

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

Oh and one more thing--you may want to try a gentler shampoo or one that is known to be more moisturizing. A lot of people swear by Creme of Nature Shampoo as one of the most moisturizing. I like Jason Natural shampoos which don't have any sulfates; In particular I like the Sea Kelp formula. Very moisturizing and cleans without stripping the hair

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

If I airdry my hair or wrap and dry under a hood dryer the moisture is there immediately. When I airdry I wash early in the day and smooth it into a pony tail. If I blow dry it it takes 2-3 days for the moisture to come back and by then I'm almost ready to wash again. It also depends on the products I use. Maybe your hair is just porous. I recently got a shower filter (about 3-4 weeks ago) but I havent noticed a difference in my hair. If anything its declined but I think its because of a new product I've used. Our water isnt really bad tho. How ofteh do you deep condition? None of the products you mentioned should cause crunchiness. Maybe try a moisturizing deep conditioner?

Where are the experts? QQ...

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

ITA w/ black cardinal, my hair feels MOST moisturized after a fresh shampooing and conditioning and gets dryer as the days go on. By about day 3-4 my scalp is dry and itchy and my hair is dry, then its all better again when I wash.

I did find that it took a while for my hair to get into this pattern, I used to think shampooing actually dried out my hair, but it was the opposite, it actually adds moisture. As long as I have a good conditioner and leave in, usually lately all I need is a hair polish daily till my next wash.

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

3/4 days.

Wave nouveau is a ton of a lot drier than a relaxer.

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

I am now only washing my hair with a very gentle shampoo every two weeks. The same week that I shampoo is when I will deep condition. I did this last week and the deep conditioning treatment did not leave my hair feeling like it had been stripped and I was really worried about that.

Maybe you should wash less often and when you do, make sure to deep condition afterwards.

You know BC, I used to poo with Creme of Nature, then NTM came along... I just might have to go back to Creme of Nature. Thanks for suggesting this because I would have never thought to switch back.

You may have misunderstood my post or I didn't clearly point it out. But, you can still wash your hair - just use conditioner and only use shampoo every two weeks when you plan to deep condition. I co wash every day and shampoo every two weeks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't implying that I only get my head wet once every two weeks.

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

Andremaria,

Even though my hair is fine in texture, I think that it is also porous. My hair and my scalp crave moisture.

The NTM did not perform effectively on my hair. I tried the Deep Recovery Hair Mask and the Silk Touch Leave-In Cream. I also tried Infusium 23 years ago. It also did nothing for my hair.

The only products which have performed consistently well on my hair have been the Joico K-Pak Reconstructor and the Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner. Additionally, I need to moisturize my scalp. Finally, I have just begun to moisturize and seal my ends on a nightly basis.

So, like Black Cardinal suggested, you may want to re-evaluate the ingredients contained in some of your products. And be diligent about deep conditioning every time you shampoo, especially if you have relaxed hair. Not doing so is a no-no (smile).

Now it bounces back immediately.
Prior to LHCF, my hair was so chronically dry that my hair shafts had little holes in them about an inch from the ends and would simultaneous split up and down the hair shaft. Wash day left me with rough, crunchy hair that lasted until my next wash. Now, I moisturize daily, use vaseline on my ends and wear a baggie. My hair has improved so much that wash day is now enjoyable for me. My hair looks better after wash day than the day prior to wash day.

. Do you know where I could purchase Joico K-Pak Reconstructor and the Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner? I'm willing to try anything at this point. I agree with the suggestion that my hair might be porous (as someone else also mentioned). You are absolutely right. My hair is craving moisture. You know, the Infusium wasn't really working for me either because my hair would continue to turn out crunchy *sigh*. Also, do you recommend a deep conditioning treatment? I'm thinking about going back to the LeKair Cholesterol conditioning cream with some add-ins under a plastic cap

Update, I washed my hair today (did an steam pre-treatment with Olive Oil) and washed with my R&N. I followed that with one of my Dominican Conditioners, Almond & Honey (GREAT slip). After that, I applied some Deep Brilliance Glisten and Reflect on my wet hair, blow dried (I know bad) and my hair felt normal. So I guess perhaps I hadn't been conditioning my hair enough.

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, the ladies are helping me diagnose my problem & they recommend I deep condition. Since we were in the same boat, I'll definately have to nip this in the bud. I'm glad to hear your conditioning treatment restored moisture to your hair

Re: Time it takes your hair to get back to \"normal

since I have started deep conditioning my hair on a regular basis, the moisture level in my hair has increased dramatically. my hair has never felt "soft" until recently.
