It is time consuming but the results for me last a week w/o me having to do anything to my hair all week but shake out the curls so that time spent is definitely worth it. And really it doesn't take any longer than doing most other things we do to our hair here, braid-outs, twist-outs, roller sets, etc.

She has a youtube for anyone still confused on how to do the method.

So, the end result is a braid out? You define let dry then braid overnight and take loose in the morning?

it's not a braidout, it's just a way to maintain your curls overnight. if your hair is straight and you plait it at night and take it out in the morning, it's not a braidout.

I TRIED THIS!! GOT PITCHUAS!! I will have to see how I like it tomorrow after I braid overnight and then wake up and refresh. Right now I don't like the stringy feeling. Also, I lost a lot of curl on a lot of parts of my hair. The wavy parts almost look straight now even after attempting the doodles and it didnt work well on my bang which I'm growing out. It took me a long time because this is my first time doing it. I will try it again next wash day after doing my ACV rinse(couldnt do one today cause it hasnt been a week) and using less product(maybe the dli is too thick). It took me so long My hands are like prunes!!! I also had to rewet lots of times because I was so slow at this it started to dry before I was even finished. Also had condish all over the place.
It was a fun process gave me something to do while my son was taking a nap.

Products: VO5 Strawberry moisture milk condish and giovanii direct leave in.

I combed out and detangled my braids

Then I co washed

Then i split in two and applied lots of condish

2ND DAY HAIRRRRRR!!!!!! I put in 6 large loose braids. It did preserve some of the original curl but a lot of it took the form of the braids. Next time I will try not braiding it. But I like it!

Here is a side by side of the back so you can notice the difference of how they took the form of the braid. Before on the left after on the right.

Great results @AuNaturalMaMa!!!! Please update us on whether or not you get second day hair, and how it looks once it's completely dry.

Will do, I just finished taking pictures! I like it much better that it has dried. I still lost a little curl vs a wash and go. Its still a little hard to me not as stringy though im sure in the morning it will be softer.

Isn't that kind of a braidout? If you need to braid it then why bother with all the other crap lol?

i dont think the braid is for style or definition, its just to preserve/stretch so your hair doesnt tangle while you sleep...its only like 1-4 braids depending on length but you could probably just do a pineapple or bun

no!!!! lmao if i flat iron my hair and put it in one or two big braids at night to keep my hair in one place, it aint a braidout in the morning!!

and if your curls get super tangled from sleeping with them loose, that's why you braid it at night. that's a great old school practice.

Yeah, I agree with Cherokee-n-Black. Her hair isn't "tightly curly"... more like "loosely curly" or "wavy"...

Her hair is tightly curled it's just so long she's got major hang time and the curls look more like loose curls and waves now.

Just saw your recent review with the wash n go,I LOVE your HAIR it's really getting long with hang time.

Those who do this on a regular basis does it weigh your hair down a lot? Is it my product? Hair?
No it doesn't weigh my hair down ever and i use a large amount of heavy conditioner.

Also I meant to add that since doing this wng method for a long length of time I've definitely noticed less ssk's and my hair is much easier to detangle at the end of the week. I've determined that the less ssk's is because the curls are singled out to form their own unit so they are less likely to loop around each other and form knots.

I see now how its not a braidout. Its already set vs regular braidouts set while they are drying and even a braidout on dry hair has some sort of product applied to help it set. Thanks.

I finally got a chance to post my dry pictures.

I really missed some pieces in the back they're just hanging limp! I didn't notice until I took the picture. I just try and fix tomorrow when I refresh.

I pinned up my bangs. They looked weird and lifeless.

I'm add them to my other post.

i think this technique works better with a silkier hair texture that easily absorbs water

I'm too lazy to use her method on all my hair, just too much for me. But it does define the curls I could only get through 1 section then my hands were tired.

I would have thought the opposite. My hair is fine, extremely porous and my strands are silky unless I dare I add gels or anything that weighs it down including conditioner left in. Once I coat my hair it will be as dry as the Sahara. My hair hates anything that dares to coat it. I tried this method once or twice and it makes me uncomfortable to even recall how bad it was lol. Even small amounts of product will cause extreme dryness in my hair.

not if you run your wet fingers through your hair and scrunch it up

I think it works better for tightly coiled vs loser coils and waves in my opinion. The few coils I have in my head when i wrapped around my finger they looked awesome. The wavy parts in my head (especially in the fine areas around my face) they were so weighted down with the product and smoothing and defining they looked straight and even after curling around my finger and holding they still looked lifeless (my bang, thats why I pinned it up). I think using the right product is very important too. Especially if you have fine hair.

The bolded makes perfect sense. I have the ssk problem too when doing consistent wash and go's.

@Shadiyah, how'd you like the book?

very good information on her hair journey and I can relate to some of her stories but just like massey the conditioner thing don't work for me. But I love the plaiting at night to protect my ends. in the morning I just have to refresh with water in the morning but most times I just co wash. I am protecting right now and really missing my curls.
