Three problems!!!!!

Ladies, HELP
I'm have 3 problems. One, my hair seems to be stuck at shoulder length. Getting below the shoulders seems to be taking forever. Two, I've always had very,very thick hair, but the longer parts are not as thick as before. I trimmed the ends but it still seems not as thick, Could it be I'm just getting older and my hair it changing. Three, I don't have much hair along the edges. Bad braid experience on the edges. I tried a few things in the last 4 months but the edges are taking their time coming back.

Okay, regarding being "stuck" at shoulder length. Do you go to a salon and do they trim your ends? If yes, are you paying attention to how much they are trimming? I know it took be a good year to see that my last stylist was quite the scissor happy chick. In fact, my mother had to point out to me that my hair was getting SHORTER. I didn't even see it.

Hi, Thanks for the response. Actually, I only go to the salon for a retouch on my relaxer and braids if I'm wearing them. Everything else, I do myself. I know it's hard to trim my own hair, but I don't trust anyone else to do it. I just started trusting my stylist with retouchs.

I think your hair might be reacting to the relaxer. Have you thought about going longer between relaxers? You can also try wearing protective styles for a while, that would definitely help.

The last relaxer I had was March 7, before that was Nov. 30. I plan to have the next on May 30. I try to go at least 12 weeks between relaxers. I'm wearing a ponytail at the moment. I plan to get braids in the future because I've had so much success with them before.

my hair was at one length for a long time also a while ago (before I joined this board). My hair was at the same length almost for all my life, until now.

Personally, I don't think it's your age because people have these same problems at all ages.

My advice would be:
1). For your edges: Order some essential oils from Cedarvale(look at essential oil and hairgrowth thread). Also order some Wheatgerm and Castor oil from them. I like Wheatgerm oil because it's very high in vitamin e, but if you've ever tried to buy pure vitamin e, it's very expensive. So, Wheatgerm oil is cheaper, but it's loaded with the good stuff, and castor oil is popular on this board for bringing back faded edges. I have a bottle with castor oil, wheatgerm oil and essential oils mixed together. I put this mixture on my hair every night after my scalp rinses.

2). I would also recommend you lay off shampoo (except for Creme of Nature moisturizing) try the condition washes, and for moisture, I rinse my hair out every night with conditioner. While my hair is wet, I spray it with s-curl, a leave-in conditioner and pure glycerin.

--Hair is supposed to grow about 1/2 inch per month, so if your hair is staying one length that means you must be losing the new growth--it must be breaking. Because if your hair wasn't growing you wouldn't need a touch up.

3). Most of the time, I wear my hair pinned up in a protective style. If you're having problems with your edges, maybe pin your hair up loosely, so your edges aren't strained. I think protective styles are good because your ends are protected from the elements.

4). Last of all vitamins are very important. I don't know if you're taking any, but at least take 5mg (5,000mcg) of biotin. I really believe this stuff works. I also think a good hair multi-vitamin is good such as Maxi Hair or GNC's Ultra Nourish Hair. I think some ladies said that B-5 is supposed to thicken the hair as well, but doing condition washes/rinses and staying away from the heat will do this as well.

5). As far as your touch-ups, 12 weeks is probably fine.

That's sooo true, I trimm my own now b/c my hair is thick and stylists love to cut and thin it out b/c of "splits" translation= scissor happy.
I would be past BStp now if I had paid more attention to how much they were cutting.
The best trimm I got was $11 at supercuts the stylist listened to me and did what I wanted.

Actually I was getting about 3/4 of an inch a month,(and retaining it) now it's probably around 1/3 of an inch. I use Creme of Nature shampoo, and I shampoo once a week, mid-week I do a condition wash. I take a multi-vitamin, and GNC Ultra Nourshair.

hie diamond lady what caused yo hair growth to go from 3/4 to only a third?? have u stopped takin some vitamnins u were takin b4 coz if this is the case then u may want to resume takin them. u may also wanna researcha bit into takin biotin and msm coz since startedmy vitamin regiment, i've aquired 1 inch in 6weeks

I wasn't taking supplements, other than centrum multi-vitamin at the time I was getting 3/4 of an inch per month, I may still be getting that much and could be breaking although I'm not seeing many little hairs on the sink or on my cloths. I now take GNC Ultra Nourishair, and plan to add a few more supplements to my regime.

Thanks Hot Chocolate for the advice on the vitamin E. I'm definitely going to be trying that.

Hi Diamondlady, How do you dry your hair? I've found that using blowdryers and curling irons really ensured hair ends stayed dry and frizzed and inhibited growth.

The advice you've been given here so far is great. The only thing is wondering how you dry the hair.
