is it normal for extensions to cause an itchy scalp? much more itchy than normal. what's going on?? especially itchy between the tracks? could it be scalp dryness??

How long have you had it in? I assume that you have either a swe in or glue or something (I hope not glue). It might be too tight, I know when I got my sew-in it was itchy for some days because it was tight but that stopped after a few days. That might be it.

Yeah it usually itches at first. At least for me it does. Braids itch for me too the first few days. I think it's just because of your hair being braided flat to the scalp. You can get a braid spray and that will stop the itching. The one I use specifically says that on the bottle. Once you wash it the first time it should stop. If it doesn't stop by say like next week, you could be allergic to the coating on the hair. But that should come off when you wash it too.

If it's too tight, it'll feel tight and hurt. Like it's pulling. You said it's just itching right?

great information! THANK YOU, both so much. I'd be lost without the two of you helping me, kawaii & bmoreflygirl. its only been a week & 1 day so i have not washed it yet. and i'm paranoid since this is the first time i've ever done this! i think i'm going to have to get some braid spray and find a way to spray it between the "net" or whatever she put on my head. my scalp feels dry. but i'm hoping this case of the itchies will go away after i wash! or after a few days. i'm sure my hair and scalp just need to acclimate.

Also if you add a few drops of either tea tree or peppermint to the your spray mixture it will give a little tingle to the scalp and that really helps me when I am in braids or twists.

Depending on the size of your mixture bottle if it is 8oz them add about 4-6 drops. The more drops you add the strong the tingle and the smell of the oil so be frugal with it. You can always add more if you like.

The BRX one by African Royale is really good and it's not oily or greasy. I always use that one. I recommended it to somebody else a while back who posted about having the same problem with the itching. She said that was the only braid spray that stopped it. Some of them are just oil in a bottle. They never did anything for me but rub off and run onto stuff and leave spots.

when I wore a weave I got the itchies BAD. even after I washed it and weeks after I got it done. It would itch non stop.

When I wore weaves this would happen to me also. It didn't matter if I did it or if someone else did it. It would constantly itch. I realized later on that it was the thread that was causing the itch. There was something in the material that would just irriitate my skin. I wish I had known about the braid spray back then. Maybe my hair would be longer that it is now! LOL.

ALWAYS wash your weave hair first and make sure that you scalp is clean but not freshly scrubbed clean.

My weaves used to itch me to no end, until I started washing the hair first and soaking the track part in some leave in conditioner. I spray the track with some Motions Nourishing Leave In spray the night before I get my hair done and let it dry.

My head usually itches whenever my hair is freshly braided. It usually takes about a week or so to wear off.

On Crown and Glory regimen Robin advised to deep in hot water with ACV the hair you'll use to braid yourself (to remove the base of the hair) to avoid itchy scalp! I use this method for evey hair I use for braids with extension or weave!

yeah it didnt make sense to me because i wore braids a lot prior to weraing weaves and the itchies with the braids werent nearly as bad as it was with the weave.
