This lady went from shoulder length to waistlength in less than a year!!!

For the video, awesome retention! She really has her hair needs down to a tee.

For the texture/ease of retention debate, yes I have looser curls but I'd trade it in a second for thicker strands and thicker density of any type! Fine strands ain't nothing to jump for joy about no matter the curl pattern. I need more protein than a little bit and I'd better be gentle and patient if I want to keep any hair on my head. If anything should be tracked it should be fine vs thick (coarse). I swear coarse strands be winning.

Awesome growth!!!! Whether MBL or waistlength, she did well! One of these days, I hope to do the same. (and I've been at this for a minute)

Maybe someone should start a SL to WSL challenge and track texture/PS/and then show what lengths were obtained at the end of one year. It won't be scientific but it'll be fun to see the progress and results :yep:

I'm on a personal challenge to grow my hair to wsl by my 30th birthday. December 23 will make 1 year of healthy hair growth for me. I'll try to see if I can post pics then.

I love her hair and videos! I think the title is simply to get as many views as possible - she may or may not even claim "SL to WL" in less than a year to be real. It's the same thing as those who post videos titled "How to grow black hair long" ya know?

I do wonder if her hair grows in a 'v' shape that pronounced naturally though. I would really hate that!

There were 2 polls done on this board looking for the relationship between length and hairtype.

Type 4 results

type 3 results

In each hairtype category the type 3's had more respondents in the bsl or longer category. The type 4's had more respondents in the sl category.

On some level looser hair types have an easier time retaining length than tighter hair types. It's nothing to be ashamed about. It just is what it is.

BTW - the poll was started by a type 4 at wsl and I was bsl when I participated in the survey.

The results are interesting. I did some analyzing of the survey: The type 4 survey had exactly twice the amount of participants than the Type 3 survey. The type 3 survey included type 3c/4a mixes which I wouldn't consider true type 3s. If someone is a 3c/4a mix, but has majority type 4 hair, they could still have replied to the 3c/4a mix instead of type 4 alone. Also in the type 3 survey, the majority of the respondents who were bsl or longer were 3c/4a.

This is why hair typing is just so... *sigh* lol. Anyway, nice retention to the woman in the video. That's all I got.

i rarely come to the hf anymore and missed these threads... but this is a concept i've been struggling with for a awhile now... not really wanting to believe it even though i've been seeing this in my very own head for years... for years my back always grew 3x as fast as my front & sides... i would get a bob w/long sides and the back shaved as low as possible w/o being bald and 6 month later my back had grown 2-3x longer than my sides and top... it was only after a being on the hair boards (not even right way- like 2+ years later) and learning my hair did i realize that i had 2 distinct textures in my head... i use to feel the new growth on the sides, especially after a stretch, and it was course, thick, tightly curled/waved, obvious new growth... then i would feel the back and and could barely feel any new growth... for a hot second i would get scared like why isn't my hair growing in the back, but then i'd remind myself how much longer the back was and always has been... even after taking excellent care of ALL of my hair and even taking oral supplements... and that's when i started thinking maybe the growth difference is due to the textures, and some textures grow at different rates:ohwell:, even though i don't want to believe this:nono: i never shared this until now... but this explains why my back (pre-cut) was grazing wl and my sides only got to barely grazing apl...

I think it's a matter of opinion. She can really say she's both in a sense. Some will say she was SL and got to WL, others will say she was APL and made it to MBL, and everything else in between. I personally will say she was in between SL - APL and got to MBL, grazing at WL. She's not wrong, if she wants to claim it let her. Her thickness is great but personally I would trim more. In the comments she says she trims once a year and does the search and destroy method in between.

Who cares if she's short! It's still not a cake walk to make it to waist length.:ohwell: She made her personal goal!:yay::yep:
THANK YOU! I always thought it was just me that would think this any time it was brought up. Personally, I don't care about how short/tall someone is or how long/short their torso is at the time of getting to WL+. I feel like the people that mention this try to some how diminish the accomplishment of getting to longer lengths to a certain degree. Does it really matter? Suppose these people that are short and/or have shorter torsos also have a slow growth rate but great retention and happened to get to WL and beyond over time? Or what if those same people had a fast growth rate but mediocre to below average retention but still managed to get to longer lengths anyway? Point is, there are many variables when it comes to hair growth and we should just think of it as a great accomplishment without any conditions if someone gets to their goal.

Her hair is just blow dried right? I would think that it would be a tad bit longer flat ironed on the before and after pics. Great retention whatever the case.

I would be and will be claiming waist length at her length! It's awesome growth and retention. You go girl!

Sent from my ice cold evo 3d y'all!

Great growth!! I also love how thick & shiny her hair is. This video got me thinking about my own progress... If she's grazing WL... I just might be full WL... I thought I was just full MBL. It's length check time!! Let me find a growth chart to stare at lol.
