This lady went from shoulder length to waistlength in less than a year!!!

When I saw the title I was like o no, not S***a or Tanesha again.

for the video...
Her hair looks wet in the before pic. If she blowdried/flat ironed it appear it might have been scraping APL. Her hair is def close to WL in the final pictures though. It is just hard to judge based on wet and dry length check pics. Her growth is amazing for one year. I am curious what she did/used.

She did a video before this one saying how she started watching youtube and looking at hair boards to learn how to really take of hair and that is when her hair started to grow.

Who cares if she's short! It's still not a cake walk to make it to waist length.:ohwell: She made her personal goal!:yay::yep:

Im going to come across as a hater but....

Its...kinda thin. Id cut back to BSL...

Great find though OP! It is inspiring!

Ok jus watched the video and she does not look to be APL.....and she looks to be below MBL. Her hair was only blown straight so im sure she would have reached WL if she would have flat ironed her hair.

Great retention and its thick :)

In the video she relaxed and flat ironed. She has a caption that says: Flat ironed hair. :yep:

I personally think if she trimmed her ends, her hair would look much better. Congrats to her!

Tough crowd

Not really, just realistic. Her growth and retention are clearly on point, but measuring properly is fair, right? It is still impressive, but I was expecing to see something different based on the descrpition.

It is what it is........

I guess she trying to say the tighter the curl the harder it is to get retention

I agree with this theory :look:

I thought it was about the handling of the hair. That's been the case for me anyway. When I starting keeping my regimen simple and taking my time when detangling and styling, I started retaining my growth a lot better. Guess every head is different, but I'm pretty sure I fall into type 4 or kinky hair.

oooh. I might have thought that before but there are so many type 4's with awesome retention now...my best friend being one of them after she started listening to me!

Am I just pessimistic? How do we even know this is the same person? We only see her back from beginning to end.

You are saying the same thing. Due to your tighter curl pattern you have to be more careful, take more time, to get the same retention as a person with a looser curl pattern.

This isn't true either, a looser curl pattern does NOT equate to more length retention. I've seen plenty of chewed up heads of looser curls.

If your hair has bends and twists in it, it's even more susceptible to being damaged. Unless you have some coarse, coarse straight hair that's resistant to everything and life in general, and it's so tough we can use it as a rope and lasso folks in, you still need to take care of it to retain length.

what would that have to do with it?

There were 2 polls done on this board looking for the relationship between length and hairtype.

Type 4 results

type 3 results

In each hairtype category the type 3's had more respondents in the bsl or longer category. The type 4's had more respondents in the sl category.

On some level looser hair types have an easier time retaining length than tighter hair types. It's nothing to be ashamed about. It just is what it is.

BTW - the poll was started by a type 4 at wsl and I was bsl when I participated in the survey.

I still don't agree but...okay.

It crossed my mind but went away a second later, I was seeing a big length different four months so I believe it's her

I believe type 4 can achieve the same results as type 3 just that type 4 has to work harder that is all. I don't think type 3 can achieve retention any faster because of the hair type but if type 4 is lazy and doesn't do what's essential for their hair, they can have a set back quicker than if a type 3 slacked

This is the same thing -PYT [USER=58845]JayAnn0513 and Crackers Phinn just said. Nothing wrong with agreeing that looser hair types may have an easier time retaining when there is evidence on this board and irl that show that. Retaining all your hair is not easy for anybody, but type 3s do appear to have it easier than type 4s. And trust and believe it's not because the type 4s are always slacking.

It doesn't have to always be because they are slacking, it could be that they aren't doing something that makes it possible for their hair to retain maximum moisture and that reason is because they don't know certain things. Or the way someone else retains moisture might not be the same way another type 4 retains moisture. Like some people say cones block out their moisture and some don't see a problem with it. And some even use shampoos and conditioners with sulfates with no problem

Maybe someone should start a SL to WSL challenge and track texture/PS/and then show what lengths were obtained at the end of one year. It won't be scientific but it'll be fun to see the progress and results :yep:
