Hi Ladies!
I have not posted in a while...............
But I wanted to share a current frustration.... I looked/ researched up a treebraider in my area ( trust me -there are like 2 people who do this in all of California) and when I finally found the phone number that was not disconnected and worked:rolleyes:.... I called and spoke with her for a long time.. and got a great great vibe from her!

So when I went to check her site... well, there were lots of 'borrowed' pics. I knew that because - I have seen them one million times....
I asked her if she could send me photos of HER work, so that I would feel a bit more confident....

Alas, I have called, I have e-mailed, for 2 weeks......to no avail.

Why do these people shoot themselves in the foot? Why are people so unprofessional? :nono: My fear is that she says "Oh Sure, I do this" - but does not have a clue......Why do our sisters think they can just do "whatever" and keep clientele???

I am trying to be patient - but since I have some HUGE events coming up. I am scared to risk my hair looking awful or worse, she never shows for the Appointment.......

I sent my last e-mail communication today....And made the last call... I hope she calls back, but - I don't think I can risk a new braider, a new braiding style and all of those unknowns on my precious hair....... a week before my anniversary and 3 days before a special trip with dh......I cannot fix the possible hair disaster.:wallbash:

I am venting knowing that you all understand.

SIGH... So now - I gotta make some different plans.....

This brings to mind my on-going complaint about us black folks. The ones that really get next to me by their lack of professionalism. I don't know how many times I have switched hair stylist because of this.

I go to one and she reeks of weed

I go to another business and they ALL have bad attitudes, no one speaks or greets you at the door.

Always profanity and gossip....which sometimes is funny, but can't we be above this.

This is why I choose to do my own, research and study over and over on the How To's. If its too difficult for me to do the style then I just don't do it.

I always envision one day I will open up a salon w/ nothing but utmost respect & professionalism for clients.

I have no words really except good luck and I know that even if you dont get the tree braids you will figure out another beautiful style to wear. You can do your hair yourself and it will look just as good as if you went to a salon, or you can go to another stylist for the braids if you still feel up to it. {she might be busy but she could've let you know that and told you she send the pics to you the first chance..., even if she were to call right now, if it was me it would be too late--you're the (potential) client, stylist should be more professional & less careless :ohwell:}

Happy upcoming Anniversary!

i would never trust a stylist that uses 'borrowed' pics. maybe you should find a different style and stylist. you never know, she may use borrowed pics because her own clients have damaged hair from her.

She showed you who she was/is.

this is the reason why i almost have a pnic attack whe i think of going to the salon..i want to get my hair shaped but i fear i will come out with a pixie cut or a mangled birds nest on my head :nono: im also tired of having all these anxieties when i think about visiting a salon i do my own braids but i cant really cut my own hair

i wouldnt trust her on my head to frank SJ, just style your own hair and im pretty sure it will look a million times better that wat she wud ever do

I am pretty sure I have seen those pics around here at these braid shops:rolleyes::lachen:
I don't know why they do this. I have gone to shops with these same recycled pics and they have dne my hair pretty well. Is there a way you can ask them to demonstrate on your hair? When I am unsure of somone's braids, I ask for a demo, just to be clear about what they can do!:look:

Samantha, sorry you were not able to get the style you wanted before your big event but I think judging by her lack of professionalism you are probably better off.

If she has a website and can't even take pictures of her own work then something is not right. This may actually be a blessing in disguise for you. Who knows what type of damage she could of done to your hair.

You are savvy with your hair so I know you will come up with a hair solution for your event. Good luck and I hope all goes well for your event.

hmmm, try calling a place that does "micros" and speak to the braider and see if she/he does tree braids. Maybe they do, they just don't advertise.

I am with you sis..... My mommie said it comes down to one word with many stylists - inconsistancy. My mom also said that since she had pics that were not her own in the first place(without any disclaimers), she may not be as trustworthy as she claims...

I will be ordering a couple of dvd's to learn how to do this style. I am done with stylists...
It is too much drama.

Thanks everyone for your support and listening to my rantings...

:yep: I want to do the same, at some point - but then, people are gonna complain about your prices/policies.... :nono: It's so frustrating and sad!

Uh oh, sounds like samanthajones67 was getting set up to be someone's "tree braiding guinea pig" :nono:
Good thing you're too smart for that! I hope she responds to you, but you'll work something out if she doesn't.
Good luck!

And you're so right about finding braiders in CA. I can't find anybody to do my senegalese twists right. I had to stop a braider and have her take them out because she wasn't doing them right. I wish I could take semi annual trips back to DC to get my hair braided!

"Non violent Non violent, By Any Means Necessary!"

*runs retarded self out thread lol hehehe*

i'm sorry to hear of your situation. The worst thing about hairstylists not being professional is when they finally are professional, they usually aren't looking out for the care of your and your hair. I hope to never have to step foot in another salon again unless i'm getting my hair done for my wedding or something.

These are one of the main reasons why I have not stepped foot in a beauty salon in years (other than the stylist over booking).

To the OP and the other ladies, I feel your pain ladies. That's why I do my own hair now. I just can't take it anymore.

I understand where you are coming from. I went to an African hair braiding salon to see if they did tree braids there and the guy points to a " borrowed" picture from the internet ! I wanted to see the work that they have done in the shop and I didn't see any so I left.

It is probably best that the lady did not do your hair if she is unprofessional enough not to do an follow up email with her work. That raises the question if she even knew how to do tree braids properly. I wouldn't trust her to do my hair because braids done improperly can lead to hair breakage which defeats the purpose of having them as a protective style.

ITA. I have never had a postive experience with salons. Their either rude, gossipers, not there at the time of my appointment, or determined that they're going to give me a different style than what I asked for.

SJ I think I may have just gotten my tree braids done by this person on Friday (if it's the person I'm thinking of, if so, definitely do not go to her).

And umm you're in the valley? Do you do braids? And if you learn how to tree braid I'll be your customer for life!

Count your blessings. I bet she does horrible work like my alleged tree braider. My hair looked a hot mess. I resorted to a full synthetic lace wig & a half wig that I can wear with a headband when in a rush (no need to flat iron my hair to blend).

Girl, I know what you mean. I got a number of a braider and I gave her a call. Everything was cool and she wanted me to come in, look at some pictures of her work and choose a style and then we would talk about price. I got the directions and when I driving over, I got lost. I called and she was not there. Three minutes before appointment time and someone said she was at the store.

I turned my car around and went home. One hour later she called and asked what happened. I explained to her that I was not coming to her shop if she was not there. She said, I was just at the store and I explained when I have an appointment with someone I expect them to be there, not at the store. She apologized and made another appointment and told me she would block off a Saturday to do my hair. We agreed on a two dates. One for the consultation and one for the hair appointment.

The second time I went over, I thought I was lost again. As I pulled up outside some raggy apartments, but the numbers of the address was correct. I called again. A man answered, you guessed it she was not there. I left and again she called. I told her I thought you had a shop, she said yes I do in my apartment. I said you were not there, she said my husband was there and I was on my way. She then told me I should have waited. I said that's okay, I don't need your services.

A couple of days later was the Saturday and she called again. I told her I was NOT coming to her apartment and I told her I DIDN'T need her services. She got mad and start yelling about blocking off the time, costing her money, she could have had another client. I hung up in her face. The nerve of this woman!!!

I did not give out names to protect the innocent and the Guilty:rolleyes:

That is ashame. Please share with us what happened ( without using names) so we know who to RUN from....:nono:

I am going to learn girl!!!! I am learning to Tree Braid honey.
