What regimen should I start with though?? I don't know anything about ANY products....I want to begin but I don't know where to begin. I'm hearing deep condition wash and all things like this but what products??

What products do you use now? As far as for deep conditioning, ORS olive oil pac is a really good one. ORS olive oil lotion is a good moisturizer. There's a lot of good products out there, you just have to start with one to see what works best for you. You can always check out fotki's of people with your hair type, to get ideas on what's working for them. They usually have their regimen posted.

Growth aide products?? Protective styling?

For growth aids, you can try WGO(wild growth oil) surge 14 or MTG. They all help with growth. For protective style, you can try braids.

Hi! Welcome to the board! Sorry to hear about your loss.

As for you hair, you've definitely come to the right place. I agree with the ladies who say you should start with a fresh cut. Definitely stay away from relaxers, colours, weaves, extensions or anything like that for awhile! Your hair needs to recover! I personally wouldn't even mess with growth aids, your scalp needs time as well. For products a great line that I and many ladies on hair used is Neutrogena Triple Moisture. The shampoo, daily deep conditioner and silk touch leave-in are all great. A cheaper alternative is the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner.

Check out the Newcomer's Guide to starting out. A great simple starting regimen would be to wash your hair with a gentle shampoo. Deep condition (leave the conditioner on your hair with a plastic cap) for at least an hour. Then follow with a leave in conditioner. Do this once a week. The Guide will definitely give you more info and options, but this is a start.

Good luck hun!

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Your hair is not going to be easy but you will be surprise how fast it heals once you start washing it more and moisturizing it and getting yourself started on a new regiment. Please read all you can on this site you will find a lot of information and you will be blown away by how fast your hair reacts to the changes. I am so amazed and proud to see you on here. first because you did not hesitate to post your pictures, and second your changes are going to really be dramatic in two months are less. Mine were. My hair is longer then it has ever been in my life and growing. All I did was moisturize it. I tried a lot of things but moisture is what I stuck too. It really changed my hair. Good luck!!!

Where can i get these products from?

You can get any of these products from any beauty supply store. I forgot to mention that ORS stands for Organic root stimulator.

Hi and I'm sorry about your loss (((hugs))) in regards to your hair you can wear lace fronts or half wigs until your hair grows back in. I would say take vitamins, wash and deep condition your hair 2x a week..you'll look back at this in time and laugh but right now I know this is no laughing matter and remember just because someone claims to be licensed doesn't mean that they know how to take care of and maintain healthy hair. There are two types of hair stylists..The ones that care about styling your hair which includes frying your hair with flatirons, etc and then their are the ones that focuses on the health of hair....but what you need to do is learn how to take care of your own hair so you can be in control of the health of your hair...HHG....don't worry it WILL grow back(((hugs)))

I am so very sorry for your loss. *hugs*

I'm not certain what your stylist did to damage your hair so severely - and she does deserve a butt-whipping. Was it relaxer? Color? Did she give any explanation for why your hair broke off so badly? Is she licensed? Stuff like this really makes me angry, and I'm sorry you had to endure this on top of all the other things you are going through.

In any case, I really think that you'd be best served starting over completely. Your back has broken to the scalp and your edges are thin; the remaining hair looks fragile and broken. You have a beautiful face. My honest opinion would be to cut it to a twa and leave relaxers alone for awhile. Get your natural hair working, perhaps when it has grown out enough, put braids in to give an additional rest. In the meantime, research stylists or soak up the knowledge here on how to style your own hair. Then, if you want to go back to relaxing, you'd be able to do so from a base of healthy hair and healthy hair practices.

Yep...I agree...when my hair was majorly jacked up I just cut it all off and started over. It was the best choice ever. I went with the TWA, and when I got tired of that I had a relaxer done by a REAL professional. I think you should take Keyah's advice...grow out your natural a bit and then move forward from their.

Even though wigs and ect would mask the damage I don't think they would really allow you to work with your real hair as far as conditioning it and ect like you would if you went with a short natural. In about 18 months you'll be back almost to collar bone and blowing in the breeze. That growing out time will also give you time to find a real professional who is not going to do this horrible damage to your hair.

Hey honey! :rosebud:

I am sorry to hear about your bereavement! I just lost my mom in November so I feel you honey! Hang in there honey, we are going to make it (with the Lord! :D).

You have received great advice! Take your time and read up! When someone said growth aides, that would be vitamins like Biotin, B5, LCysteine, MSM, available at any health food store and some pharmacies. Also, water, exercise, and eating right (fruits, veggies, proteins) helps everything, not just the hair! Massage your scalp, that really helps!

Now there is a member on the board who is a stylist, and comes highly recommended! Her name is Balisi, and she is in Georgia! Check her out or send her a private message!

If I were you, I would 1.) take my vitamins, 2.) keep my hair deep conditioned, moisturized (not just grease) and protected, and:
- if you want to wear long hair, get a good wig and make sure your hair is protected underneath with a satin cap, not just a wig cap. Take it off at night for the scalp massages and let your hair breathe.
- if you want short hair, cut it all off and start over with the twa and take good care of it!

But look up Balisi! Best wishes and praying for you! HHG!

P.S. I ALWAYS watch a new stylist for a long time with others before they touch my hair!

I'm sorry about the things going on in your personal life :(. And I'm sorry about the damage that so-called stylist caused you, I'd have to punch her in the ovaries!

Anyway, made your important first step by deciding you want it healthy again and found the perfect resource. Now, I think you should come up with a preliminary regimen. I am ( along with many others on this site) a bit of a product junkie so I could tell you whats good or popular on the board.
Back to the regimen, Just start with the bare bones that fits your lifestyle ( not everyone has the time to CO wash every morning) and budget.

Personally I'd try and Shampoo and Deep Condition 1-2 a week. If your hair's reacting well to washing and you have the time you could optionally add 1+ Conditioner Only washes. You'd probably want a protein treatment once a week to every other week depending on the strength of the treatment. Daily you should moisturize twice daily and seal with an oil or butter. I'd definately try to stretch your relaxer... you might look a little crazy at first but you'll get the hang of it. Better yet try to look up a thread on protective styles so you can look more presentable and grow your hair out at the same time.

Product wise, you'll need a good clarfying shampoo (to get build up out and help recieve moisture better), a moisturizing shampoo, a deep conditioner, a light protein treatment, a heavy protein treatment, a daily moisturizer, some oil or butters.

Heres some personal recs. from my experiences and other popular recs.

Clarifying Shampoo: Any cheapo drugstore shampoo labeled clarifying will work. You'll probably want to use it once a month to every other week depending on when your products start to not work as well. Good ones include: Pantene Clarifying, Suave Clarifying, Creme of Nature Clarifying, Elasta Qp Bodifying, Elasta QP Scalp Stimulating Shampoo.

Moisturizing shampoo: Theres alot of these, I avoid harsh sulphates which dry out the hair. Good ones include: Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo, Creme of Nature Shampoo and Conditioner, or Breakthru shampoo.

Deep Conditioner: There are many good ones to moisturize promote elasticity. Lustrasilk Shea Butter Cholesterol, Lekair Cholesteral, Keracare Humecto, Roux Porosity Control! ( The best thing ever for me, add a little to any ho hum conditioner and it becomes great!), Silicon Mix, Neutrogena Triple moisture, ORS Replenishing Pak the list goes on...

Protein Treatments: Aubrey Organics GPB (light protein/ pre shampoo), Nexxus Emergencee( moderate to heavy, don't follow the directions on the bottle!), Aphogee Treatment ( The heaviest of the heavy, only use every 6 weeks or when breaking very excessively) Nexxus Keraphix (light).

Daily moisturizers: Theres alot of these too, Elasta QP Mango Butter, Elasta QP Recovery, ORS Olive Oil moisturizers, Cantu Breakfree, many others...

Oils: Coconut oil, Castor oil, Olive oil, Shea butter, etc....

Whew! This is alot of condensed info, print out this thread and use it as a resource/ shopping list.

Thanx so much metal kitty. Can all of these products be found at Wal-Mart?? The Sallys that used to be here is NO more....Unless I go to the next town i won't be getting some of these products soon. maybe we'll go after christmas shopping tomorrow though!

Some things can be found at drugstores/ Walmart, some at Beauty supplies, and others at Sally's. Remember that methods are just as important if not more than products though! I'd keep a notebook to keep track of what works or not.

Hi Allyse, I'm sorry to hear about your problems with your hair. Listen to the ladies on the board and you will see a change in your hair. I use to go to school in Valdosta. There's a beauty supply store called Royal boutique that has a lot of the products the ladies name.

I think you should cut the rest off and get a tapered fade.( go to a barber shop, so a guy can really hook you up!) This way you can start from scratch. you can wash your hair with a good moisturizing shampoo, deep condition, and since it will be very short, you can put a moisturizing cream or oil in your hai,r brush, do-rag at night, and hook you up some waves until it starts growing. Then you can wear s TWA or twist it. I did this a few years back and my hair grew alot and it was very healthy. You wouldn't even need to use alot of products. But you better not put a relaxer or any other chemicals in your hair for a long time. I wouldn't recommend braids or wigs either because your hair line is very fragile. Good luck and I will keep your family in my prayers.

Oh Baby...so sorry about your loss. My sister (36 yrs. old) died in March of this year leaving behind an 11 year old so I KNOW what you are going through.

I am sending prayers to you and your fam as I type ...

You will get through this! As for your hair, you'll recover it as well. I won't add to the good advice you have already received here except 2 words...

PATIENCE and CONSISTENCY

Next year this time, after putting a regimen in place that works for you and following it consistently, you WILL have your hair back and it will probably be BETTER than before.

HANG IN THERE and STAY ON YOUR KNEES IN PRAYER - GOD WILL GIVE YOU STRENGTH!

:look: BEAT DOWN SOMEBODY NEEDS A AZZZZZZZZZ WHIPIIN:ohwell:
I am 37 years old never been to a salon since yrs ago,That day i went in for JERRI CURL tha lady cut my hair to the scalp never did i ever go to a salon again.

WHAT THE HELL DID SHE DO?!!!!

I would stay away from her like the plague.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister's death. My heart goes out to you. If you need any support we are here for you.

But as for the stylist, did she have some kind of vendetta against you or something? That is some serious damage!! Honey, continue to visit this board. There are women here you went through the same thing and I'm sure they can tell you what to do. But you need to take special care of you hair to get back the way it was.

My prayers are with you and your family at the start of this new year, may God give you peace to stand in this difficult time.

You've gotten such great advice already there's really nothing to be said. I do agree that starting over from freshly cut, healthy hair is probably the best foundation. Then just keep it simple:1. Pre-treat with warmed coconut oil or olive oil OR regular old mayo and an egg 2. Wash 1-2x per week with Cream of Nature in green bottle 3. Deep condition with heat each time with Mane & Tail Original Conditioner, 4. Spray your leave-in treatment in African Royale Daily Doctor or Infusium 23 are great and easy to find at most Wal-Marts, & 5. Seal with oil Olive oil is great on wet hair, coconut oil on dry hair ( Ginseng Wondergro, Hot Six, & Africa's Best are good too).

Now my EVIL twin says take pictures and SUE her *** so she cant F@#$ up someone elses hair!
