Jabs at natural hair have been made for YEARS at " black peoples' " expense, (no need for me to elaborate on that)....No one is "safe"....I know it won't end in my lifetime. We all need to stop being so d*mn sensitive. If you are confident in your decisions, relaxed OR natural, what anyone has to say about them shouldn't bother you THAT much, goodness. In the end, you are the one combing your hair when you role out of bed in the morning.

But go ahead and get all worked up if you want to....then ask yourself why.

Just to add...my comments are NOT excusing negative behavior in general. We all could do a better job with addressing one another, and expressing our opinions without intentionally trying to "hurt" someone. We will never all think the same. It's ok to agree to disagree and to feel strongly about something, but there is a way to do it respectfully.

To the OP, congrats on your decision and I wish you much success on your new journey :)

"I recently discovered that relaxers are made with the same product as Drano! It's a harsh chemical! Plus, relaxed hair is dull and lifeless and thin, and NOT healthy. Sure, it looks healthy because you put all kinds of products in it, but it's really stripped down to nothing. Relaxers also burn, and why would anyone want to burn their scalp? Here are several acticles that back me up, and hopefully you will see what I see. Now, my hair is beautiful and healthy, and I get tons of compliments, not like when I was a slave to the relaxer! And most of them are from white people!!! For those who still choose to use the creamy crack, don't be offended. Just keep it moving!"

 I can hear this being said with such theatrics...it has definitely lightened up what was getting heavy.

I think that sometimes people feel naturals can be pushy with thier information.(i say this from experience) I know a natural that smokes...?? And another who lives on BK & Mickey D's...where's the balance? You're saving yourself from being bald in 25 yrs but you may not even be alive. And then there's the newest natural, Cathy Howse, the crook!

Hair breakage usually can't be explained in 1 thing. It can be a combination of many things. Women of other nationalities suffer from breakage, women that don't use relaxers. Breakage can be caused by a poor diet, genetics, manipulation, etc. we all know.

As long as you: have a smile on your face, if your hair is kinky or straight, your heart is beating with love to give that's all you really need to live ;)

Hairgirl--Good luck in your decision to go natural. You will have MORE than enough information to help you here!!

:lachen: This is SO true! Usually people get defensive when you strike a sensitive bone.... Its just an opinion. People are entitles to them whether they support yours or not. No need to get worked up just move on to the next thread.... As a wise man once sang, "DONT WORRY BE HAPPY!"

Who's worked up? Like you said, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Why is it that when I give mine, I'm defensive, sensitive, and worked up? Such the double standard.

Besides, two wrongs don't make a right. Just because people make jabs at you in life doesn't mean it's ok for others on this board to make jabs at relaxed people. Please don't work out your issues with "society" on those of us who are relaxed.

FWIW, it's not the message, but the tone behind it. And yes, I saw a tone in your posts. At any rate, congrats on doing what's best for your own head!

I'm just going to say this...I don't think the relaxed heads on this board have any problems with anyone going natural. For me, I get annoyed with this:

"I recently discovered that relaxers are made with the same product as Drano! It's a harsh chemical! Plus, relaxed hair is dull and lifeless and thin, and NOT healthy. Sure, it looks healthy because you put all kinds of products in it, but it's really stripped down to nothing. Relaxers also burn, and why would anyone want to burn their scalp? I mean, is all that necessary? No. There just seem to be jabs made at our expense, but we aren't allowed to get defensive or start "wars". It just gets tiresome, is all. If you are truly secure in your own choices, you don't have to reference anyone else.

:yep: ITA, uh huh, yep, right on!

You are so right. I don't understand people who are very strong and pushy about having natural hair and are not natural or healthy in other areas of their life. It's like what good is it to condemn relaxers all the time and you smoking cigarettes and eating unhealthy all the time.

Thanks so much for the info. I have always know relaxers were really bad, but it was a reality I chose not to think about. This thread definitely gives me some food for thought. I am considering going natural, i'm in the fence about it at the moment.

Youre right 2 wrongs dont make a right so why call a person out? In my eyes you didnt give an opinion you responded to hers. And you may note that I never called you defensive OR sensitive I broadly said people..... When people (notice I said people again) respond to things in an attacking manner rather than comment on the ORIGINAL subject its usually (notice I said usually) because they feel threatened. And no its not a double standard. She didnt attack you PERSONALLY, she attacked an idea.

Some people (notice I said some people) chose to call her out by name instead of attack the idea that relaxed hair is ugly. What I am for is people posting thier ideas and thoughts rather than attacking individuals.

You dont like meat? Fine but when you start to call out certain people for eating it, I think its a personal attack. I felt it was negative and I tried to get those people (notice I said those people) to realize that its not positive to attack a person. But again thats just me. I realize everyone isnt for positive criticism. Some people like drama and arguing. Some people dont even realize when theyve been toyed with. Had thier feelings bent out of shape. Baited and hooked by someone who hasnt visited the thread since..... :lachen: Its a waste of time to argue with people who 'disappear.' I was just tryign to steer the thread back to its original purpose. But then I realized some people just like to argue and be negative :)

Now no need to worry if you arent 'some people.' ;) And If you are truly secure in your own choices, you don't have to reference anyone else. You also dont have to call people out (also known as referencing people) ;)
