I love my natural hair. I want to wear my hair straighter at times. I am in love with firecracker's hair which got me to thinking of texturizing. What has been your experience?

Excuse my ignorance but what is a texturizer?

A soft relaxer. Instead of getting it straight, it will only relax the curl pattern a little bit.

CG, my motto is be happy and research. Make sure you know this is what you really want before you do it. But I think you are sexy either way, so whatever. Good luck!

My hair is texturized and I'm transitioning to natural. If you are looking at the results of someone elses hair and you like it make sure you 2 have somewhat of the same hair type because texturizers look much different on a type 3 than in my case a type 4. A texturizer did make my hair looser and it was easier to straighten but I still had to use heat to get it relaxer straight. The best thing about texturizing for me was it did make my hair easier to straighten and the worst thing was it made it weaker and more prone to tangles thus alot more breakage. It did not make my hair curlier but stretched it out and made it more puffier because of my hair type. I had to work just as hard to keep my hair straight (It would still revert if it gets wet). Before I put the texturizer on my hair I had 0 breakage but from that point on I've been fighting ever since to keep the strength and thickness of my hair which is why I'm transitioning. I have pics of my texturized hair in my fotki if you want to take a look and good luck on your decision. You will look great either way just do whats best for you.

Hi CountryGal,
I have no texturizer advice, just wanted to wish you luck with whatever you do. And I agree that Firecracker's texturizer is lovely. I saved the following threads in case I ever decided to texturize:

I'm texlaxed, and I LOVE it. It really is the best of both worlds, IMO because I can get my hair straight in less than 30 min. if I want to or I can wash and go and let my waves & coils do their own thing. Plus, my hair is still thick and holds styles well.

I used to have the same issues that gradygirl did before I switched up my regimen. For me, my texlaxed hair doesn't like the same products that my bone straight or natural hair does so I had to go back to the drawing board which I didn't realize for a long time.

With the wealth of knowledge here and the many texlaxed/texturized heads, I think you could texturize and maintain a healthy head of hair. Just realize that it's possible that your texturized hair may like different things, and be willing to experiment. I was way too married to my staples in the beginning.

Firecracker may be able to give you some advice as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted! :)

Thank you mama!!!

I think if I do something it will be later on in the fall. I straighten my hair today but it doesn't last very long. It is not getting puffy thanks to the IC serum recommendation.

Hopeful- Your hair is really growing. It looks great. Thanks for the link

Gradygirl- I didn't think about hair textures. Thanks for pointing it out.

Divine- I am hoping I could do my hair in thirty minutes but still get my coils back.

I have plucked Firecracker's brain. I think our hair is very similar.

also remember that when you get touchups the previously relaxed hair may get straighter as a result of the relaxer running down the remaining strands as it is washed out. Over time this can straighten the hair even more than you may like.

Good luck!

Mine come back every time. :) I don't use marcels or high settings when I flat iron my hair because, like naturals, I want my texture to remain in tact for days I want wavy buns and big hair.

What did Firecracker have to say? What kind of texturizer is she using?

remeber it is very hard to consistently get texturised hair to look the same curl pattern. I've only seen Firecrackers hair like that and her hair looks natural to me.
Also i think there is a reason that there are very few texturised women on any hair boards. ( i was a member at one time of 10)
Most end up relaxing or going natural.thats all i've got to say about that.

I went natural
texlaxed then back natural
now I'm texlaxed again
my hair looks natural to most people
I love my big hair
it helps me retain the wash n go for more that the day my natural hair holds up
and it thins it out a bit

I love my hair

Hey ya'll. I have had talks with CG about my take on texturizing.
I use Motions Mild. This isn't my first texturizer with the same product. I used it for four years before. I don't straighten my hair as I like curly hair so this works for me. As someone said my hair still looks kinda natural but I tell folk the truth.:lachen: I never had a problem with my hair straightening over time or damage so I'm good.

personally, i had way more fun with my hair after i started texturizing... although i was only naturally through the twa phase, i found that my hair took much less time to style after i texturized...

and now, even though i'm texlaxed, i still get my curls and coils with my wash and go's.. i guess it all depends on experimentation...

I am going to definitely look into it. When I straighten my hair, I don't do it pass the 5 setting on my Maxiglide. Afterward it is hard to come through.

FG- how often do you texturize?

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. :D

It looks completely natural. Maybe i have seen more texturised and i just can't tell.:look: If you and firecracker hadn't stated it i would of thought your hair was natural.

Every 4 months CG. My hair is always coated with Humectress conditioner when I apply the Motions because I use it as a leave in. I haven't tried a rollerset yet but I will soon. I think it may come out kinda straight.

Hey chiika, what product did you use and how long did you have it in your hair? And is your regimen for texturized hair in your fotki?

Do you mean you coat your hair with the conditioner and then put the Motions in or you coat your hair after the Motions has been washed out and neutralized and then you leave the conditioner on after that?

How long do you leave it in your hair? Are you coming to the LA meet up, because I will be there and will be looking for you to ask you 1,000 questions about your process and watching your hair like it is some interesting TV show! :)

Until today, I didn't know that either one of them had texturized hair.

Did you ever do it CG? I'm big on DIY for almost EVERYTHING, but this is one of those things I think you at least have to bring in a homegirl to assist with the first time you do it if you want precise results.

I haven't had chemical services in years (except color) and so much has changed. In my time, it was slap it on, comb it through, work it through some more, wash it out, condish, and keep it moving. Now there's a SCIENCE to the chems. LOL!! I'm pretty clueless. . .
