Has anyone recently purchased a CHI? I just bought one at JCP and it looks maaaad cheap compared to the first one I bought. Could you tell me if your new CHI has a reset button on the plug (my old one doesn't). Also could you tell me if it says CHI where the on/off switch is (my old one does). The casing has sharp edges on the one I just bought ... it just doesn't look authentic. :nono:

Could it be a different model. Maybe the wet to dry one?

I can't see JCP doing that.

It's not the wet to dry one; it's the original model. I thought the same thing about it (as far as buying it from JCP is concerned) but it does look suspect. I am going to call Farouk about it tomorrow.

bumping ... anyone purchase one recently that can tell me? It is not a different model.

Just got back from purchasing one from Bed Bath & Beyond (had a gift card). It definitely looks different from the one in Ulta (where I went first). But to answer your questions, it does have a reset button on the plug and it does not say CHI where the on/off switch is. IDK...

Yeah ... something ain't right. It feels so cheap. I wonder if Farouk is 'cheaping' out on us or if we got a fake. It doesn't even work the same as the one that I first bought. The only reason why I want another one is because I got a little ding on my plates.

I just realized the one I have doesn't have a temp control on it. It's going back tomorrow...(got a FHI today too! I guess the decision has been made)

I think calling them is a really good idea. This really does not sound right!

I had too many meetings today so I couldn't call them. But I e-mailed them and am waiting on their response. I will keep everyone updated.

See, I purchased my first iron from a salon distributor in my area. So I'm thinking that maybe they sell the 'cheap' version to consumers and the 'good' version to salons. I am going to see if I can go to the distributor that I initially went to confirm this IF Farouk says that the one I bought is authentic.

I'm trying to remember becuase I used my CHI just this morning. It doesn't have a reset button and it does say CHI next to the on/off switch. and the edges are rounded squared edges. I couldn't say it's fake, because it's from JCP (JC Penny's?) I don't think they would sell fakes. I agree that it just may be a different model. You would return it to get your money back also.

Wow keep us updated on this....you might be onto something about selling a better version to salons...because that is how they got popular and then ppl buy them thinking they are getting salon quality and will get salon results when they might really be selling a cheaper version to the public.

I purchased a CHI from Folica about a month ago and mine has a red reset button and a yellow test button. It only as CHI on the circle part on the bottom. I'm pretty sure Folica doesn't sell fakes HTH:yawn:

I agree with this because for some reason I remember the one that I saw in Ulta was more sturdy in its assembly and even the casing was heavier than the one I purchased. It seems very loose and made of cheap plastic. The same with the FHI. It may not be a fake but just of different quality or it could be a fake and BBB doesn't even know it because of who the purchased it from. Taking both back because the FHI already has a scratch on the plate - what's up with that!!!

AND AFTER LOOKING ON BOTH WEBSITES - BBB IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTOR!!! JCPenney is however for the CHI.

Even if it was purchased from an authorized distributor you can get stuck with a bad iron..thieves take the good irons and put junk appliances in the boxes and then return the items to the store as new for refunds. Then they(thieves) re-sell the good irons on the street. I've seen it happen at several bss especially with items like clippers and blowdryers.

Really?? Interesting. I am taking it back tonight and asking them to open the boxes before I pick up another one. Otherwise, they can take that crap back. Hopefully, Friday I will be able to get someone to go to the distributor for me so I can check them out there.

Maybe someone did the switcherooni on mine and put a fake one in there.

Farouk has not responded to my e-mail. So either they just got 'caught' out there or they were too busy to e-mail me back. I hope it's the latter. :ohwell:

I returned both the FHI and the CHI to BBB and then went to Ulta. There is definitely a huge difference in the irons. In addition to the things we've already pointed out, on the inside of the iron where you have the labels that show the serial & model numbers and where it is made were different. The one from BBB basically had a paper sticker with the information printed on it. The ones at Ulta had a plastic/metal-like label with the information pressed on it (kind of like the old label makers). Plus, even the prices were different with the better deal being for the better iron at Ulta.

Since I had both to compare, they were both very similar in the way they performed on my hair and I don't think that would be true of the "real" irons. I just hope I didn't damage my hair in the process.

I was researching flat irons on Folica and this is the exact iron that I purchased from BBB, only it said Chi on circles where the attachment is. The top of the iron I purchased had Global Beauty Ceramic on it. I remember because I thought it was odd that it didn't say Chi and there is the safety plug!!!
Very interesting...I don't know what anyone would bother passing this off for a Chi but I can definitely say, the one I purchased this week was a fake!

Okay, now I'm really confused. After further investigation, there is this brand of Chi - Global Beauty on sale at several places and they refer to it as a Chi, and then there is the Farouk Chi. Somehow they are related but the Farouk Chi is the one you want - BUYERS BEWARE!?!?!

So its not a fake after all...?!?!?

They all say Global Beauty (even my original one).

The ones at Ulta didn't and what else is weird is that there is a price difference between the Global Beauty ones and the Farouk. Either way, I ORDERED A SEDU!!! :yay:

That's odd. The Global Beauty ones have Farouk on the inside. Hmmm.
Go 'head ... Go 'head :lachen: I sure wish I liked the Sedu ... I wouldn't be stressing over this CHI.
