I relaxed today and as usual, my hair is thin again. My hair has always been like this i know it was a big mistake relaxing my natural hair in the first place when i was 15. Now that i think about it, will my hair ever look good if it gets to brastrap. Im currently taking 5000mcg of bitotin and its helped but its not helping as much as i expected it to. My hair strands are a little bit thicker but i just dont think i have like enough hair growing out of the pores if that makes sense. I got this from my dad and grandma who had to cut her hair real short as she got older. Its pretty obvious cos when you look at my dad's hair, you can see his scalp and you can actually see where the hair comes out of the pores. I was just thinking about this and its depressing. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Is there anything you have done to make your hair strands thicker or whatever to help?? K...enough ranting...

I don't really have much advice but I wanted you to know that I was listening (reading). I thought I had the thinnest hair in the world until I started taking care of it. Healthy and more even hair (with the help of a mini trim) helped my hair to feel and appear much thicker. I have also used Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner a couple times followed by a moisturizing conditioner and saw good results (stronger, thicker-feeling hair). With products I know that less is more and I only leave my relaxers on for 5-10 minutes. I think in the end, we can not run from what God gave us. Embrace it for what it is and know that it is unique and beautiful. I will add, you should try to find a hair idol with similar hair texture. I will keep you in mind and see if I can post a pic of some inspirations.

Don't be discouraged. We are all entitled to long, beautiful hair, thin and thick alike.

It looks like you have very fine hair. In 2003 I started taking Shen Min and my hair came in really thick. It's expensive and you have to take it for at least 3 months before you notice a difference. Biotin shampoo and conditioner are also a great idea!

LOL...OT...yes, that's Taimak...

I remember when I saw him on the screen....I went to his mama's job with a letter and said give to your son please. I wound up running into him on the street anyways...and then he called my house and I was away for the weekend...but I digress...

to Dolapo...the ladies are offering pretty good advice.

I have fine, thin hair...and although slow growing...I'm making progress.

It takes time, patience and care. Finding out what works for your hair and sticking with it. Lay off the heat...baby those ends...make sure that hair has a good balance of moisture and protein. Keep it as simple as possible.

That's all I can contribute..lol.

Happy Hair Growing to you!

Fine hair is hereditary in my family and I have the thickest of them :( . I am the only one between my mother, grandmother or sister who relaxes their hair. My mother, sister and grandmother even brother has hair like you described (thin, can see the scalp) and they have never had relaxers because they know their hair is not strong enough for it.

My opinion is that some people can't get relaxers...maybe you may want to think about going natural instead. Your hair would probably be more healthy and will be able to get stronger. Relaxers IMO make the hair week...Just a suggestion.

Now my hair is thin too but not like my family. So I take a chance. I take care of my hair and cut down on the amount of relaxers I get in a year.

I discovered Nioxin years ago and I believe it is a great product to have if you have thin hair. The Cleanser and Structure and Strength is my favorite. I also use the Follice Booster on my hair line daily. I would suggest these products or the Nexxus Biotin line.

Another thing I have begun is switching relaxers. I use Phyto Index 1 now, which does not get my hair bone straight, but just as good. I think this was another problem I had which was thinking...gotta get it bone straight....Hopefully in the long run this will help my hair become stronger.

HTH

thanks everyone for your suggestions. i actually got the nioxin conditioner and returned it becaause of the smell (stupid). I have the nexxus biotin creme and rarely use it. I have stopped using heat a long time ago. Im going to give all this a try for the next three months and if i dont see little improvement, ill go natural. not that my natural hair is that thick but not using relaxers might help. and i use keraphix cos i noticed strong protein actually breaks my hair. im a college student and i dont think i can afford the shen min. thanks everybody

I don't have much advice either but I just wanted to tell you that from looking at your pictures your hair really is improving. In the latest pics your hair looks thicker, healthier and longer. Keep doing what you are doing, try some new things, and try not to get too discouraged.

Could it be that you're overprocessing your hair? If you want to try keeping a relaxer, you could try leaving it on for much less time.

I think going back to natural is the best alternative, but if you want to keep a relaxer, maybe somehting like a texturizer would be better.

for how long im i supposed to leave the relaxer? the jar said 20 mins overall. but that was for normal hair. but for fine hair it says 15 mins. I didnt want to leave it on for 15 mins cos i got underprocessed hair. but that was when i used motions. this is a different relaxer. i think ill do that the next time. or just go to a professional.....

You may want to try Aveda scalp therapy for a while. It cost 11 dollars and can last a long time. Use it daily on your scalp. Cut back on relaxers. Also it will take time so do not get discourage for using a product for only a short period of time. I have the same problem around my edges . I am trying hard hard and not given up...

DITTO!

BE ENCOURAGED, YOUR HAIR IS GROWING...

I have accepted the fact that I have fine hair and that there is not much I can do about it. Overall it is healthy and a nice length. I know how you feel though, try to focus on getting your hair as healthy as it can be. Once it is healthy try roller sets or braid outs to make it appear fuller. Your hair looks like it is improving alot keep up the good work

I can only share what has worked for me. Over the years my hair alternates between very thin and really thick (depending on the care i have given it) Thru trial and error I have learned how to get my hair thicker but it takes time and patience. After I have damaged my hair by doing something stupid e.g. Coloring, flat ironing once a week, using lil moisture (it weighed my hair down) and trying to transition at the same time LOL! I usually go on a braid a thon. Braid your hair in individuals, (not micros!) for lets say six months (rebraiding of course) or more. When you take your hair down you will notice a difference in fullness and length. The key is keeping it that way once you take your braids down and decide to wear your own hair, lots of moisture, little heat and protective styling (i'm sure you have heard all of this before). Also try a shampoo and cond that will add volume to your hair. That is my two cents! HTH!
