These are my CONFESSIONS....

Oookkk, although this is entertaining I would really like some more suggestions for OP's topic. Lol! For me it's not an issue of messiness, I put conditioner in my henna mix so it stays put where I want it for the most part. I'm still having a helluva time rinsing all that ish out though!! Even during my last henna treatment, using the suggestions of the ladies here, I was in the shower for SO long & thought I rinsed until the water was clear. I expected it to take awhile, and lawd it did...my hot water ran out it took to long! (NOT a fun shower experience.) A week later during a cowash I looked down & STILL saw a little henna water. What?! Ugh! 2 weeks later as I was getting my relaxer touch up I looked at the stylist's gloves you'd think she was putting color in my hair- so much henna residue was still on my scalp! Uuuggghhh! I will try every single one of your suggestions if I do henna again. I love the effects of henna but DANG!

If I am hi-jacking, my bad....lol.

newnyer i think a hi-jack is necessary. at least until OP comes back w/ more drama (can't lie, i likes the drama)

anyhoooo, i think the secret is the henna sift. as in, super fine henna w/ no branches (teehee) or other residue. do you use BAQ? what kinds have you used?

newnyer - Same thing happened to me. During my next co-wash, I was still washing some henna out.

I'm actually SAD, that I have to do henna this week. I can tell my hair needs it but I'm really putting it off

OP my favorite protein is Soft Sheen Duo Tex its not hard and sticky like aphogee and gives me good results

@Your Cheeziness - No, I haven't.

Never even heard of it, lol.

Is it a protein treatment? I just googled it, and can find it in my local store.

I'm definitely going to try that out.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuu

Really hope this works

You can find it in BSS and Walmart, Target, etc. It's in the ethnic aisle.

nzeee I bought Reshma henna from a local indian store here. It was less than $3 for 200 grams and saw some folks here using it so my pockets gravitated to it. :) Yes, it's BAQ (to my understanding...I want to read the box again to reconfirm this but don't have it anymore). I may just bite the bullet and order another brand online & see if that gets better results. @ Lucille it looks like we are in the same boat when it comes to rinsing so can't help you out there. But just like others have said, changing the consistency with conditioner or yogurt (haven't tried) & wearing gloves seems to help out with the mess. I can attest to at least that.

OP I also need to Henna and have been DRAGGING my feet due to the process of how long it takes :/
HUH, hopefully I get it don't Friday or Saturday this week.

I will be using Napur and then an INdigo Afterwards. Such a messy process :(
But yes the benefits are awesome

@ maybe the Aphogee 2 min Reconstructor? or Joico K-PAK Deep Penetrating Reconstructor? Joico is very good. you can order it, or it is carried at Ulta

I've tried Aphogee, and that was terrible for my hair.

I don't really know any other brands...

Can you recommend any?

TIA

As far as proteins lighter than Aphogee 2 step, I use:

Aubrey organics' GPB (most health food stores)
TIGI Bed head's dumb blonde (walmart, target, ulta, most mall salons)
Ion reconstructor (from Sally's)
Nexxus emergencee (ulta)
Sebastian's penetrait (ulta, some mall salons)
Joico's Kpak reconstructor (walmart, ulta, most mall salons)

Zaz- I was thinking of getting the AO and using it as a pre-poo before my weekly cowashing and again before my shampoo & DC's. Do you think it is a light enough protein to use twice a week?

newnyer it's pretty light so I wanna say yes but see how your hair feels when you do that. I love it because it leaves my hair strong and moisturised at the same time.

OP how do u find the henna messy?

Application or processing time? Are you sleeping in it?
How thin/thick is the mix you use?

I see alot of these henna is sooo messy threads, and i'm starting to think ppl are making the henna too thin.

I dont pre-section my hair, i dont detangle, i just take off my shirt snap on some gloves and go. After I apply my henna there is no dripping( i apply from scalp to tip), there is a mild clean up in the sink, but nothing a 30 sec clean up with water doesnt fix....also usually im using a whole box for application(jamilia henna size)

I always sleep in the henna, shower cap, towel on pillow . As my hair has gotten longer and my hennaing skills better I now do shower cap, tshirt( previously stained from henna ) over shower cap, stocking cap sleeep.

No mess, no pillow stains( im also a roller, sleep kicker, blanket pusher off-er). I do still add the towel though as precaution(when i remember

heres a pic of my hair in(bentonite cuz i mix the pastes to a similar consistency)henna and bentonite.(bentonite cuz i mix the pastes to a similar consistency)

Is this to messy?
I've never found anything to have the same power as my henna, I stopped doing them twice in my journey and each time I've come right back. Each treatment just makes my hair feel stronger, a reinforcement of the previous application.

I've used tropic isle protein conditioner before and I like the results - less breakage, stronger strands. It smells like pickle juice, because mustard seed oil is an ingredient - but it works. If you can take the smell, the product isn't bad.

newnyer have you ever tried rinsing in the shower first and then ducking your head in a basin full of water and a drop of shampoo? You will have to fill the basin and empty it a few times but you will save water for one and give your scalp a good scrub. That should get most if not all of the henna out

Thanks for the tip! This steps seems like it could get a little messy if I'm not careful....maybe I'll fill up my kitchen sink 'ol skool style and do it there (idk- my kitchen stainless steel sink seems easier than the porcelin bathroom sink to clean up the leftover henna dye).

I henna every 2 weeks, and when it's time to rinse I do the ol' school fill-up-the-kitchen-sink-and-dunk-rinse-shampoo-and-repeat action. 10 to 15 min easy-breezy. HTH
