Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

P.s. These are pics of my highlights before... Im looking to get them remotely the same....

The first pic shows my attempt at the Remy Martin look (im from the BX and I was in college... dont judge me...lol

The second was right after I did them the 2nd time and I hated them cause I thought they were to bright and chunky but they toned down to be the color in all the other pics...

The last two are just trying to show the back.... please ignore my friend...lol

I have been coloring my hair off and on for over 15 years myself (beauty school drop out). I only have one rule for highlighting/coloring hair, never put color on hair that is already damaged. That is just asking for trouble. I do believe that some people's hair simply cannot handle hair color, but if yours can, you should always make sure your protein/moisture balance is in check and that you use products designed for color treated hair. I highlighted my hair last May and I haven't had any problems with breakage at all. So yes, I do feel it's possible to have color treated hair without going bald :yep:

Lmao

I have had red in my hair a few times and always end uo coloring back to brown as soon as I can... it fades so quick... i love how it looks on me but after a few washes is dreary looking... brassy almost... i try to refresh it with rinses but it never works to my advantage... sigh... thats why imma stick with my blonde....

Can you pm me the address and number. I am looking for someplace cheap in NY too go that uses Aveda products... Its the school thing im scared of tho.... have you gotten colored there... do they seem remotely knowledgeable?

I haven't gotten anything done there but when I was interested in becoming a cosmetologist years ago, this was one of the schools I interviewed. They were very professional from what I saw and of course they had all the aveda products so I was in PJ heaven! The clients hair looked nice too! I think that you can request a senior student to do your hair, there is always a instructor supervising them when they do your hair. Check your PM I sent you the address and phone number.

I coloured the middle of my hair a copper colour, see my profile, with dark and lovely a couple of years ago and loved it. It was so soft. The colour took ages to fade and when it did i just used their colour mousse to spice it back up.
It's all grown out now, plus i'm transitioning but i think i may do this again in the summer...but i'm still scared.

I've never had highlights. I'm definitely going to have it professionally done once I have reached my goal of waist length. Thanks for all of the great advice. Now I feel comfortable getting it.

Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

Kyna, thanks for htis post.. It's useful. My question is when you get your highlights redone, are they careful not to overlap and get the roots only? I'm so scared to get it done and then need a touchup and they overlap, esp at the demarcation line. When I first got my hair highlighted I had no idea about thsi board or protein treatments, etc... so my hair fell out bad...

hey girlie...ummm... this will be the first time I get it touched up. But, she is VERY careful with how she handles my hair. And get this... she's a Hispanic chica... she had been doing my aunt's hair for years tho and she does a really good job. she is very hair savvy and she answrs all of my questions and sends me home with good advice. So I'm not wooried at all at this point. STAY TUNED :)

Oh I'm excited for you! Please post pics and give a thorough review when you get your hair did!

Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

So when you get your highlight touched up, are you not susposed to let the colorists overlap? My stylist used to and I never had a problem :perplexed

Oh I totally know what you mean about having highlights and then going bald. I am backing away from dyes for a longgggg time

Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

Bumping...did you get your color done? :look:

Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

I did highlights to myself once:lachen:...Nah just joking they came out great and my hair was near waist...The pics are in my 2007 album. I deep conditioned all the time (still do) and kept it moisturized so it wouldn't get dry and break and that worked just well. :yep:

Re: There HAS to be someone on this site that maintained highlights without going bal

Hey guys, I got my highlights done... here the update...

I did NOT go to the Aveda salon... they only had week day appointments and I couldnt get off from work so I went to my trusted Dominican (plus when I called the Aveda school the receptionist said they not sure if highlights and relaxers work... i got a funny feeling)... It came out a bit orange-y but I am assuming thats from the Bigen and its a bit chunky but im sure it will grow on me cause if not imma be a brunette again!lol

Updates are in my Fotki

Yes, I'd be interested to know. I really need to try something different with my hair this summer.

It's either highlights or my usual L'Oreal Castings purple/red/brown summer semi- permanent.
