I have this problem too of no shine by second day. My curl stretches out into a very unflattering poofy straight dull mess.
 
Curl Keeper or Sebastian Wet. Both products get a little hard after they dry, but adding a little oil will help with that.
Sebastian Wet is no longer made...
Do u mean Curl Keeper gel? or some other product?
 
The reviews for Curl Keeper look really promising!
I also think adding products to soaking wet hair helps, but my hair never has the shine on second day hair. What is shingle? I need to search that one.
Here is a good shingle tutorial. She does it on dry hair. Concept is still the same though.

Not the gel, the Curl Keeper Original.
And while Sebastian Wet is discontinued, Sally's still sells their impostor/GVP brand (AKA Liquid Sculpting Gel).
