Okay so here's the thing although my hair is growing and I love it! I have a little problem, they nape of my neck is NAKED, that's right NAKED... I believe it has to do with the fact that when I first started wearing my falls/half wigs use to keep the combs in. Which use to hurt like hell and rub like crazy so I started cutting the comb out.

The thing is I feel I may have waited to long... Please view the the photos below and help me figure out how I can correct the damage that I have done...

Oh, I'm so sorry! That happened to me in the temple area once with micro braids. I can't think of a real good balm to put on there other than Nioxin which I hear actually does work. (I just never tried it personally). Most especially, don't pull your hair into a tight ponytail. What I did was I hid the area with the hair parted covering the missing hair, and I hardly ever relaxed the area. It'll grow back with time. All hair does.

Try a blend of jojoba and grapeseed oil and add to it a few drops of rosemary, lavender, white thyme, and cedarwood essential oil to it and a quarter ounce of MN, and lastly an eigth of a teaspoon of sublime flower of sulphur, mix well, apply lightly and massage for 5 minutes daily for a few weeks. That should do the trick.

Another trick you could try is to make a pot of strong brewed coffee or tea (with caffeine which helps to stimulate the growth new undamaged hair follicles), mix with a little mild shampoo, apply to your nape area, massage in a little, leave on for 30 minutes, wash and DC as usual. HTH.

@shunemite well the good thing about it is, that it is in the back of my neck so when I wear my hair down you can't see it but when I bun my hair (which I'm starting to do since I'm 8wks post),but I will look into to the balm right away...lol

Girl this sounds like the real deal mix right here... lol Thanks so much...

i would use jbco in that area. you can use it all over the hair so putting it right there would be simple enough.

Here is my progress with my nape:

That's a 9 month comparison. January - September 09

I also grew out my edges this year, it's in my fotki.

My "secret" is castor oil and conditioner (used as a leave in).

Twice a day, I spritzed the hair in that area with water, then put in some conditioner, and coated the hair/scalp in that area with castor oil until it grew back. I kept that section fingercoiled (braided would work too) until it gained a few inches.

I still moisturize and lightly seal my nape and edges 2 times a day.

Baby the area, keep the hair there moisturized when it starts growing in... and castor oil really seems to be good for the scalp. It's working very well for me.

Good luck growing, ladies!

ETA:

I also have been doing tea rinses for the last 2 - 3 months. It's good for the hair AND scalp. The caffeine helps with growth and the acidity helps with shine and porosity.

I suggest only brewing the tea for only 30 - 45 seconds. It makes it less drying for me.

wow thats exactly how my nape looks...thanx every1 for the suggestions!

I am attempting to grow out my nape using a methods similiar to Neith. Every night I heavily moisturize & seal with castor oil.

Also, if you are relaxed do not allow any relaxer to get near that area. Good luck with your hair.

Nothing really to add just wanted to say you've made GREAT progress, I'm sure it will grow back soon following the PPs advice

AMAZING!!! Castor oil has never been apart of my reggie, but it will now!

Good point on the castor oil Neith. I started adding it to my daily moisturizers and it really works at thickening and keeping my new growth hairs pretty soft and manageable as well.

Will these regimens work with the hair the hair above the temple area too? I am not noticing anything major yet, but a slight thinning that seems to be a pattern with the women in the family as they age seems to be trying to creep into my hair. I noticed that just leaving it alone is helping a whole lot...no scratching, no tight cloths to pull my hair into a puff...just clips at the front or twists all over.

Anyway...you think castor oil will thicken the hair above my temple areas??

Great post, OP!!
