The purpose of curl activator on relaxed hair?

In my brief affiliation with the LHCF, I have observed that many of you use curl activator for your protective styles.

I conducted a search, but did not pull up anything. Thus the reason for my question.

Exactly why does one use curl activator, and how does one use curl activator? I was always lead to believe that it was for individuals with texturized hair, and therefore never gave it a second thought - until now.

I thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi Northernbelle,
They turned me on to s-curl activator and I am very glad they did. Can you say moisture! This packs a punch! When my ends are dry and nothing seems to work I spray some on my ends and seal it with mango butter and never look back coz I know it's doing it's job all day long. It also completely softens my new growth when I have a lot. It is also excellent for braid/twist outs.

I use curl activator because it does a great job at moisturizing my hair.
I use it on my wet hair (Worlds of Curls Activator Gel). It's awesome. Thanks for the tip Adrienne!

So...

One can apply curl activator to wet hair *or* to dry hair? That is to say, to freshly washed and conditioned hair, and to dry hair?

Please, forgive me. I am just trying to understand.

I can apply curl activator to my wet or dry hair. Try it and see how your hair responds (since what works for one doesn't work for everyone, ya know).

This stuff moisturizes like nothing else. I use it on wet hair too. When I use it on dry, it tends to feel a little greasy or filmy. But that's just me.

Northernbelle, I am using S-Curl on my braids, and it's great stuff. It gives really good moisture without a greasy or gummy feeling. Adrienne uses activator on her hair and shared this tip with everyone. Thanks a bunch, Adrienne!!

It's good stuff and not terribly expensive, so it's worth checking out to see if your hair likes it. Let us know if you do buy it and what your results are.

The S-curl made my fine relaxed hair a bit too soft, but my boyfriend is using it to moisturize his (natural) afro. HE'S getting a lot of compliments lately.

I'm trying to take some credit for advising him to use S-curl to soften his hair and stop the breakage.

Can it be used on natural hair? My mother told me she used it on my hair when I very young (5-7 yrs maybe) and it changed the texture of my hair but not in a good way.

the glycerine in curl activator is what provides the incredible moisture. i alternate between World of Curls gel (heavy) and S-Curl spray (light), but almost any brand will do IMO. it works best with protective styles because it can weigh the hair down, but i've used it before blow drying wearing my hair straight as well. i'd rather use a heat protectant without it though because i hate weighed down hair when wearing it straight.
