Hi Ladies,

Don't know if a thread like this has been started before, but I was sitting here thinking. So many of us have been/are in the process of transforming our hair based on the things that we are learning here. So our daughters hair should be much longer and healthier than ours right? I mean some of us (myself included) are recovering from years of damaging our hair by not treating it right and not caring for it properly. I'm thinking that if one day God blesses my Boo Boo and I with daughters, their hair should be on point from day one since I will know how to properly care for it.

What do you think? Ladies on the forum who already have daughters, what have been the results of implementing the things that you have learned about proper hair care on your daughter's hair?

It is so important, I think this is one thing that will make my daughters life much easier than my own life. I had so much drama with my hair, and kids can be so cruel. I want to minimize that as much as I can for my children.:)

I am soooo glad that I found this site techinically speaking:) This site has enabled me to turn my bad hair habits around and improve the condtion of my hair and also to retain the growth..I have a 13 year old daughter that was treating her hair the same way that I treated mines prior to joining...now with the knowledge I have learned. I passed it on to my daughter...She now wash her hair 2x a week and deep condtions her hair once a week and it's really turning her hair back around...It's growing nicely and her hair is so soft and healthy looking now whereas before it was dry looking...We also don't see hair in the sink anymore...she even has her own little stash of products like me...and she likes the idea of having a variety of conditioners and shampoos to use like me:) and it also makes her want to wash her hair and take care of her hair because she also sees the pictures on this site...and that encourages her to wash and deep condtion her hair because she wants her hair to grow back to midback before bow wow came out with the zig zag braids and whatnots...what messed my daughter hair up was relaxing her hair and not taking proper care of it...sooo it broke off due to dryness and infrequent washings...but we're both on the right track now..:)

My 6 yr. old daughter's hair is a lot different than mine. Mine is 4b relaxed and hers is 3a natural. I've always been so used to my 4b hair, I had always been lost as to what to use on her baby fine curly/wavy hair. It was dry, so I used to try to put oil in it to moisturize it  Of course, since LHCF I know better. Her hair can't tolerate any oil at all, it just makes it like an oil slick.

The trick I've discovered is that her hair loves my Aveda Elixir. I massage a small amount in after her shower and then french braid it for bed. I also comb it very gently; before I was probably too rough on it.

LHCF has definitely had an effect on how I treat my hair and hers!

This is so true! When I was 13 I had to move in with my dad (they're divorced; my mom had to be hospitalized) in the upper Midwest (from Maryland.) I had no wherewithall to get my hair retouched, so it all broke off and looked terrible. The other black girls at the school just made fun of me, rather than try to help me. It was too much drama for me at that time in my life. I never want my daughter to go through something like that; when she's old enough, I'm going to teach her what I've learned here. Thanks to you ladies she'll be armed with the right knowledge to take care of her hair.

Well, I'm still learning new things as I go but I can tell you ladies that I have been taking better care of my daughter's hair. I think she's (now don't quote me) a 3a natural. Naw, maybe she's a 3b. I just know that I wish I had her hair when I was a shorty. I didn't get made fun of (at least I don't recall) but looking at them ol' school pics, I always had one of them pink spongey lookin rollers in my bangs. Not a good look.
Gettin to the point------------> With the help of everyone here, I have learned to be more gentle with my daughter's hair now. She's always saying how she can't wait to wear her down like me and how she wants her hair as straight as mine. I tell her that I will do what I can so that she doesn't have the same poor hair habits that I've had in the past. From the way things are lookin, she's liable to have almost waist length hair by the time she's in her teens. She's only 8 now and it's pretty long. I'm just hoping that as the older she gets, she isn't influenced by her peers to put any chemicals in her hair.
Now my son is a different story. I'll be cuttin his pretty hair soon. Still indecisive.

That's a very interesting point. I don't have children yet, but I know what I've learn about my hair from LHCF will always be on my mind when I do my daughters hair. I know that I'll know how to take better care of her natural hair while she's young from all the naturals on the board, and when she's old enough to relax (I plan on making her wait until she's old enough to understand this and begin to take responsibility for it) I'll know how to teach her to care for her relaxed hair.

Another question for the moms. How much time does it take to care for your daughter's hair, if she's not old enought to do it herself? I'm thinking I spend so much time on mine, do I have time to care for someone else's hair as well?

Well my 13 yr old wash and deep condition her hair but I put the conditioner in her hair...she basically takes it from there...she air now as before she use to blow dry and the one big thing that I noticed about her is she doesn't use get in her hair anymore. Even the good kind like fantasia styling gel or queen helene. She just puts in shea butter leave in conditioner and fantasica teatree moisturizer (I forgot the name bought it for me but didn't like it) My baby girl is another story but I braid her hair every 2 weeks and put doogro hair oil or doo gro grease on her scalp...I shampoo her hair with doo gro stimulating shampoo and deep condition with doo gro intensive conditioner...I spend about 3 hours on my youngest daughter hair.:)

Well, on her wash day(s) I normally wash it, deep condish, rinse and depending on how I feel and whether or not if she wants braids, I would braid in 4 plaits to airdry. It would only take me bout an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. But on a day when I'm gonna braid it really fancy shmancy, after doing what I stated above, it normally takes about 2 1/2. I make sure that on the day that I'm doing her hair, I don't have to do anything to mine. I usually dedicate 1-2 days outta the week to mane both my son and daughter's hair. It doesn't take me long with my son except for when he's having one of those days when he just doesn't wanna sit still. It only takes me about 45 minutes to an hour with his lil bitty head.
