Today after teaching my class today one of the ladies asked came up to me and said "Excuse me pretty lady, but where do you buy your weave?"

Y'all, it was a ponytail day and my hair really wasn't behaving. Didn't even look that good. But I figured I'd do something different and wear a pony tail instead of a bun.

I got the look of disbelief when I told her thats my real hair. I even took it down and got a TON of looks of disbelief!

My hair is long to me sure, but its not really all THAT long, especially for this place!)

Anyway the lady asked if she could touch it (first thing in my mind I was like..um.. no.)

But since I gotta wash it anyway I said sure. She didn't yank, thats always a good sign. But I got a lot of questions on what I use from a few people.

First thing I did after I left was I sat in my car and thought about it, started laughing and couldn't wait to get home and tell y'all.:lachen:

That's a cute story! It never fails to tickle your funny bone when people start to mistake your hair for weave. It also lets you know that you're doing something right!!! Was the lady one of "us"?

Congratulations!!!!!!:) what a compliment to all your hardwork of taking care of your hair. that is a blessing!

I probably would have laughed too after going through that experience. There are alot of folks out there who automatically think that you're wearing a weave if you're hair is long and healthy.

BTW - Did you give her any tips.

Being that I teach a class in a half way house...them chicks can be a lil rough. But lots of them are trying to get their act back together (some, I don't even ask what their past is..uh uh, I don't WANNA know!!)

The ones I work with are an interesting lot... there's only 5 but, they cool with me, especially since I'm working to help them write resume's and apply for jobs.

I passed on the basics for good hair care (wash, rinse, condition, moisterize, repeat) and told them good cheap products to use and that wearing their hair up is the best way to retain it.

I also realized that before today I've never worn my hair down when I'm there...that maybe was also a suprise to them too.

:) Such a cute story...I'm glad they were receptive to what you had to say after you told them it wasn't a weave. Some people refuse to believe even after you show them otherwise.

That is funny... sad that when people see a black woman with long hair the first question is, "What Asian BSS do you buy your yak from?"

Your hair does look beautiful in your avatar. I'm glad you went ahead and humored them by taking your hair down, and gave them ideas of cheap products to use, that was sweet of you.

Thank You for sharing this.:)

I can not wait to be able to correct someone when they comment on my "weave"!:D

Great story! It was a confidence booster! Keep up the good work.;)

Congratulations!

Great story. My hair isn't even close to long and My husband thought it was a weave about 4 months ago when I wore it curled. My little sister didn't believe it was my hair either so I must be doing something right.:)

My hair is a testament that consistency pays off. All of the info and ideas shared on these boards is what its about. (seriously I think we need to put togther a hair care protocol book)

I have to say I'm feeling extra good about my hair today (maybe even more than yesterday!) Even though I have to fight the beast this afternoon (yep its washday)

So many people in this very thread have inspired me and encouraged me even without knowing it, so I'd like to thank YOU for guiding me to that next step.:Rose:

wow I'm at "Is that a weave" status!! what a weird feeling:lol:
