Summary:

The scam is called food digger scam where people (men and women) match with someone on a dating app, plan a date at a specific restaurant, the person goes to the restaurant and gets stood up. The stranded dater ends up staying and eating alone since they are already there.

Come to find out that the restaurant has bots that are matching and "meeting" people on dating apps to get them to come to their restaurant. The restaurant knows that the stranded dater will probably still eat once there since they put in effort to go there and probably hungry.

Apparently not a new phenomenon as it seemed to be an issue in India for a while.

Seems like the red flag will be planning a meet up a restaurant very quickly after matching and not having a say in the restaurant choice.

Scammers never stop. I wish there was a way to catch the restaurants and flood them with bad publicity and negative yelp reviews.
