The half-shaved head thing

Is this a new trend? I know Chime did it, but I pass Carol's Daughter every day and the promotion for the new Monoi Line (typical sulfatey, garden variety hair care) has a model with APL hair on one side and shaved on the other (relaxed or otherwise straightened).

Question--if you had that much hair--would you do it? have you done it?
I don't think I could do it. I know me. Eventually I would get tired of it, and how would you grow that thing out. Sure you can combover for a while, but (if you're natural), won't you eventually have a little mini fro over there?

if my hair were as thick as Chime's, i might consider it (because id be able to go from funky to corporate in the blink of an eye) but with my hair density, i don't think i'll be able to pull it off. i think it's cute on Chime though :yep:

That would be the one hit wonder Cassie. This trend has been revived for a few years now. Nothing new, Salt n Pepa are credited with popularizing it in the 80s.

No, I would not do it unless my hair would grow 5 inches a month when I finally realized, one week later that I did not want it anymore.

Growing that out would be a pain, I think. To each, her own.

I think it's a stupid trend...and no, I wouldn't do it. It looks ridiculous to me.

LOL@mini fro (on the sides). That was funny!

I thought Cassie was the model for the new Monoi line right? (lord knows I don't keep up with this stuff) If that's the case, she shaved a few years back, so that's old hat.

As for myself, my SO puts up with a lot, and he has only one request: that I do not shave my head. He's shaved, and greatly prefers one of us to have some hair :yep:. He can handle one inch, but not shaved. Since that's his only request, I guess I can accommodate him .

I personally would NEVER. I'm 40 and that would look ridiculous LOL I wish I was bold enough to cut it like this back in the 80's when Salt n Pepa made it popular.

I think that if you're young, do not have to work in a professional environment, and don't mind the fact that you will most likely have to cut off all of your hair at some point when its growing...then I say go for it

You are so right...I thought she looked familiar. In that pic, though she looks, well, "blacker." I didn't recognize her at all, even though she kinda looked familiar. And now that I think about it, I think I did see a pic with her head half shaved before that. It looks nice on the ad. It didn't look nice before.

I'm sorry, though, Salt and Pepa did not have APL and beyond length hair!

RE: Chime, it does look cute on her. And edgy and funky.

Raven-Symone brought it back! She did it before Cassie.

I honestly love the way it looks. The closest I got to that was an asymmetrical bob (which I adored).

No they didn't, but they still rocked that style and started the trend. I remember when people were shaving the sides of their hair back in the day (I was in my mid teens). Here's Lisa Lisa in the 80's. Damn that's alot of eyeliner LOL Gotta love the tacky 80's

Good one, forgot Ms. Lisa Lisa.

Peppa said they started it first. She said that the girl who was doing her hair bleached her hair and left it on to long on one side. She said it just burned off lol. So Salt shaved hers so that it would look like they did it on purpose and it just caught on.

Then I remember Kelis shaving hers in her 'Im bossy" video (but the rest was short).

Then Raven shaved her hair on the side (but the rest was long)

Then Cassie did it.

Then RiRi did it.

Then Lala did it.

Then the girl from Dirty Money did it.

and so on and so on and so on!

Yeah I agree, I'm 36 and that's no longer an option. If I'm in the mood to look crazy I just sport some moderately low pigtails.

I would never do it, my friend just did it, she likes it, I don't, but I guess it's up to the person, I just don't see the point of having half your head shaved, and the other half full of hair, I don't like the trend, but hey do what u do, i mean how would u style it besides having that same style?

I think it's a really dumb trend. :lachen: I just can't see why this is popular.:nono: I guess I'm too old fashioned. I still think Rhianna looked like a rooster when she did it. :giggle: I thought Peppa was a relaxer gone wrong.

I like it, actually. I would never do it, but it looks hot on some people. I thought the trend would be old by now.

Cassie is definitely the reason the trend came back in style.

I would never do it. If I want a shaved look, all I need to do is cornroll my hair going back on one side and pin it up at my nape. I can take it down the next day and still have my hair!

Cassie's head is more than half-shaved now. it's more like two-thirds.

i know some people who are just now thinking about doing it.:perplexed i'm not into trends but it seems as though if you want to follow one you do it when it's hot.:lachen:like seriously, where y'all been for the past few years.

I would not do it. Yet to each his own. Neither dumb or disgusting to me just not my cup of tea! Chia Tea with cinnamon sticks please. :)
