The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Postpartum Shedding (Pics!!!!!!!)

I was 9-months pregnant in the white shirt, June 2008.

Today, in the pink shirt, January 2010 (a year and a half later, planned on being at full waist length, but shooting for next year instead).

My edges...they fell out, then I filled them in when I was working out, eating right, and taking vitamins. Then when I fell off my routine, it fell out again.  My hair is always an indication of what's going on internally with me.

Yep, that's what's left of my nape. I have grown them from worse, so I know I can do it again.

Blessed that I kept the rest healthy. Later in 2010, I will even it out with a generous chop. But for now, I'll keep dusting and trimming while trouble spots fill out.

I know for sure I will be MBL this year, if not already. Overall, with all of my whining last year, I am happy that its healthy and I have this board to come to through all of it. I will do follow-up threads throughout the year, to see how it goes with filling out the nape and edges. Wish me luck.

Um, your hair looks nice...
but, why on the white picture i cant even tell you were NINE mos pregnant.
Your waist is so tiny!!

Thank you for sharing.

I was thinking the same thing. I had to read that TWICE! Giiiirrrl!! You were TINY!

You hair is still beautiful. My nails are the same way. They are brittle and break when I am not eating like I should. Take good care of yourself hun and congrats on the bundle of joy!!

Your waist was very tiny when you were pregnant. Sorry about the setback, but I am glad you found the solution to your problem.

Happy Growing!

ITA! I was like, WTH? Did she mean 9 weeks? :yep:

Loving your hair, btw. Good luck on your nape and edges; I'm sure you'll grow them out better than ever!! HHG!

WAAAAHHHH!!!! postpartum shedding scares me and makes me want to re-think having one :( my hair's too thin to lose any of it!

Your hair is doing great. I agree postpartum shedding scares me.. I do not think I will ever be ready for that

Is there anything worse than PP shedding? No worries mama 2010 is gonna be your year. The year of the comeback. And at least you got all that pretty hair to hide your nape.

not everyone has post partum shedding. I had two kids and I never had post partum shedding. My hair never came out, broke off, or shedded in any way.

As a matter of fact, my hair grew and got thicker. And it stayed that way after my children were born.

So don't be afraid to have children because of that. Cause it might not happen to you.

Don't you just hate it when parts of your hair won't get with the program:wallbash: That's ok, you'll triumph again, and you've got a whole year to get there:yep:

I bet you a e-Tbone steak that you'll be waistlength by 12/31/10!

Congrats on having a healthy baby! You and your hair still look good to me; the nape and edges will gradually fill in.

You also looked tiny during and after the pregnancy. Congrats on that too!

I have plans to cornrow my hair and wear it under half wigs, for most of 2010. I ordered my first wig and can't wait for it to arrive. I figure I can stop stressing over it, and just let this stage pass while looking fly in my wigs. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

:yep: I agree, jealous, but I agree.

Congrats on your baby!!!

I know how it feels to lose your hair to pp shedding. I didn't with my first baby, but I did with my second. Some circles in my hair were smooth as a baby's bottom. They still haven't filled in years later. I recently lost the length in the back of my head due to a hairstyle malfunction. I can cover it, but my hair looks thin. I'm in bootcamp so by the end of the year I should be back. You will be too!

Im not gonna lie, shedding or not, your hair looks still great to me. I was really expecting worse when I read the thread title, but your hair is beautiful

Nichi, you are sweet for that. It caused me all sorts of worry. I have spots that are almost bald. But now I have a plan for regrowth, and try not to stress over it so much.

Congratulations on your baby!!!

I had severe shedding with my daughters, not too bad after I had my son. I think it took about 6 months for my hair to stop shedding. I know that with me it was probably due to my diet (or lack of). At least you didn't lose length. If you were able to get your edges back then you should definitely be able to do it again.

Mz.MoMo5235, shedding might not happen to you. Plus that's not the worst part of having a baby. Hair grows back, but the stretch marks lasts forever LOL

You're right about those stretch marks!

BostonMaria, your avatar is sooooooo beautiful. Your hair has thickened up! I  the volume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the shedding but your hair is still gorgeous and will bounce right back... and your waist @ 9 mo pregnant

Yep, I have circles too. :nono: A clear one in my nape and one around my temple. And it does make the hair thin. In my pics, I combed the hair in a V to show length, but when fanned out, it looks so thinned out and see-through. Eventually I'll have to chop and allow it to grow back fuller. Good luck with bootcamp, Ebonimama!

Thank you so much for posting this. I have a problem with my nape as well :perplexed.

Your hair is still oh so fabulous though!
