The Dominican Paradox?

I'm sorry. She roller sets her hair to dry it, then hits the roots with a blowdryer and she uses a curling iron to finish it. I do the same except I use a flat iron.

I used to airdry also and noticed more breakage than if I use heat. I'm not sure what a Dominican Blowout is but I roller set and then blow out my roots and then flat iron and I have almost no breakage between washings. And compared to before not that much breakage on wash day.

I had several hairdressers tell me not to airdry and I ignored them. I have a friend whose hair is waist length and she swears by this method.

I also think it's important when using direct heat not to overdo it. Blowdrying my roots takes a few seconds on each section and I don't drag a brush or comb through it. Flat ironing is the same, I use medium heat and I don't hold the flat iron on any section on my hair for more than two seconds.

Maybe it is true, different hair types respond differently to heat?
I agree that using heat in moderation is key. When I straigthen my roots, it only takes seconds to straigthen per section and then I cut the dryer off and proceed to the next section ...

Also, because I am only doing the roots and the dryer nozzle is positioned above my brush, the brush may be acting as a buffer to the heat.

It's Always Been My Opinion That The D.r's Dont Have Any "magic" Potions Or "growing Hands". Except For Very Rare Occasions, All The Ones I've Been To Use Inferior Products And Are Very Rough With Combing Our Hair (especially When Wet With That Little Rat Tail Comb). And I Dont Think I've Ever Seen Anyone Get A Blowout And Not Be Surrounded By A Billow Of Thick Hot Smoke! And Have You Ever Noticed That Round Brush They Use? It Looks Like It Has Hair In It From Every Person That Has Ever Sat In The Chair! I Think The "secret" Is People Can Afford To Go More Often Because It Is Cheap, No Appoitment Needed And One On Every Corner In New York (right Next Door To The Chinese Food Spots). So Since Women Are Going, Like, Weekly, And Manipulating Their Own Hair Less, The Hair Will Grow. I Do Have To Disagree That The Hair Is Healthy. Most Heads I've Seen (when You Look Really Closely) Have Ragged And Thin Ends! I Dont Think Many Of The Stylists Know Or Care About The Health Of Our Hair!

Btw, This Is Not To Bash The D.r's. I Admire Their Hustle And I Go Every Week As Well. I Just Dont Allow Them To Do Any Chemical Services, I Bring My Own Products, And Insist That They Handle My Hair With Care....

OT: I always wear my contacts so I can see exactly what is being done to my hair when I got to the salon.

OMG, I thought I was the only one who did this, LOL! They can tell when you can't see everything and are squinting and I swear they will just tear away! Some of them want to set as much hair as possible for tips, they dont care how much hair YOU lose.
