What have you learned or discovered about your hair this year (or any other) that will help keep you on track for healthy, fast growing hair for 2007?

**********************************************************
After trying Qhemet products I finally discovered that my hair does not like butters (shea, cocoa, etc) and thrives on this oil-cream based products.

Good thread!
I have discovered that my hair thrives when I stretch relaxers (at least 3 months) and when I do protective styling! And that heat is a no-no for me if I want to reach my goals.

Horsetail and 5mg of Biotin dont mix for ME. My skin looked like an alligator taking them both daily. So now I go one month Biotin one month Horsetail.

My hair LOVESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS protective styling(although I discovered that it will grow regardless its great for this BRICK winter weather here).

My hair LOVES ORS Olive Oil Moisturizing Cream. I wish I would have discovered it sooner.

My hair does love grease!!! Doo Gro Oil is the BOMB!!!

1)That I can grow my hair! Past my shoulders...finally!

2)That weaves are a great protective style for me! Much quicker than braids and not damaging at all because I do them myself.

3)Doing my own hair (and I mean for everything) is the only way I can retain my length and be completely satisfied with my hair.

4)Stretching my relaxer is so easy! I can't believe that I used to relax as often as 5 weeks before...it's just not necessary for me.

Because of these 4 things my hair is really thriving. Thickening up and getting longer.

You can do your own weaves:eek: how do you do that???

Here are mine:

1) Protective styles can be cool ie. French rolls or buns.

2) Taking control of my haircare journey by trimming only when needed and self relaxing my hair preserves the health and length of my hair much more than when I went to a salon.

3) My hair doesn't care for conditioners that contain too much glycerin.

4) Henna is a gorgeous way to color and condition.

Girl, it's really not that difficult. Just search the boards for info. If you can cornrow you can do it. I did my own all the time when I was relaxed. Since the BC my hair is too short to grip right now (that and my nails are too long ) so I get someone to help me.

I found out that the relaxer was holding my growth back. No matter what I did my hair still continued to be thin and break off. Now that it's finally all cut out my growth has taken off tremendously. :)

I love your curly little ringlets, they wanted to come out and play!! I can't braid or cornrow!! When I used to braid my little sister's hair in pig tails they would stick up in the air because I somehow managed to braid them upside down  :look: - - not one of my skills.....:look:

I need to change my products for DCing, i think this will really improve the condition of my hair.
I must detangle weekly at the least, otherwise the tangles are just unbearable!

  • Cutting back on heat makes my hair thicker and helps me retain growth
  • I can rollerset my own hair and get salon quality results
  • Relaxing 2x a year works well for me
  • I can do my own trims and retain plenty of growth
  • Moisture = the key to long hair

1. I can stick with a consistent routine!

2. There is no ONE miracle product that makes your hair grow.

3. Hiding my hair is the easy and safest way to grow out my length.

4. Vitamins do make a difference in the growth rate and qulaity of my hair.

1. deep conditioning is the truth! (Humectress/Humectin I love you!)

2. Daily moisturizing is whats up!

3. MSM makes my hair grow in smoother

4. Mango butter is the new gel for my roots & smoother for my ends

5. s-curl is the only product I've found so far that can make my hair extremely soft & moisturized

6. Mizani straightens my hair better than any other relaxer I've tried

1. Clarifying Shampoo is a necessity!

2. I can control tangled hair by correcting the porousity of my hair...

3. Fall wigs are the bomb!

4. Vitamins work!

5. I can airdry my hair...

6. I will NOT wash my relaxer out by shampooing frequently;)

7. Moisture is the key:)

My hair has finally found it's soulmate in the ORS Olive Oil Relaxer.

I discovered that my hair really does grow and is not doomed to above SL.

The ORS replenishing pak is a very good Deep con and I may stick to that.

I may not have discovered what particular chemicals my hair likes and doesn't like, but I discovered what products work for my hair.

Blowdrying is evil.

I've discovered that I REALLY need to find a regular shampoo! I may try the ORS shampoo just for kicks.

Water and oil are the best moisturizers for me and don't leave a lot of residue!

ETA: I also discovered that if I want the least amount of breakage when combing, wet combing is a NO NO! The best way for me is to roller-set and sit under a hooded dryer until completely dry (1.5 hours) with a good conditioning leave-in (my stylist used one, but I don't know what it was--gotta find out!) and THEN comb. Very little breakage that way!

1) Relaxers really do weaken and thin out my hair.

2) Most butters and oils do not work for my hair.

3) My hair thrives of the moisture from frequent washings.

4) Protective styles don't harm my hair, but it doesn't help it either.

5) Mineral oil isn't bad.

6) It is possible to keep my hands out of my head.

7) Transitioning is an up and down process.

1. Lots of moisture
2. No heat
3. No chemicals
4. Little to no manipulation
5. Low-to-no 'cone products
6. Henna-ing(?) I've only done two treatments (one per month) so far but um, I think my coils have loosened up a bit.
7. An attitude of gratitude!:)

Thanks!! Aww you'll get better with practice. My cornrows look a mess most of the time but they're gonna be under the weave and nobodys gonna see them anyway. As long as they're braided tight enough you're good. You also could just get someone else to cornrow it for you and then just do the sewing yourself. They just need to cornrow it straight back and leave the hair you want to cover the tracks out.

I have learned that if I keep playing with my hair, I will tangle it, and then have to either cut or rip (I know, eek!!) the knot out. That means no growth.
this is my goal for 2007...keep my hands out of my hair!!!
:sekret: (IF ANYONE HAS SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO REACH THIS GOAL, TELL ME)

I have learned:

1) my hair hates chemicals - it doesn't matter who puts them in or what kinda wonder deep conditioning treatments are done after the fact, my hair will break, easily becoming dry and weak - without question.

2) There was no such thing as a press before the Maxiglide came into my life. Now I know what I'm doing!!!!

3) Straightening shampoos and conditioners WORK! In fact they cut my work in half! So thank the creators of Redken and Paul Mitchell for me. Although Redken Smooth Down is my favorite.

4) My ends must be trimmed. They don't have to be perfect, but no longer will I allow breakage to go untreated by NOT trimming and just hope it grows out. With me...hair just keeps on breaking or splitting up the shaft unless I "nip" it in the bud!

Bmore,

Can you please consider posting a tutorial for us someday?

Sure, I've been meaning to add some stuff to my album. Someone else also asked me about a makeup/eyeshadow tutorial. Maybe next time I weave my hair (I had someone else do it for me this past weekend) I'll do a tutorial. I believe weaveitup has one in her fotki though.

1) my hair love ORS Replenishing packs

2) My hair like weekly to twice weekly washings

3) I can rollerset pretty well

4) Vitamins really do make a difference

5) When in doubt, do it yourself, you really do know best 99.9% of the time

My hair loves to be washed in braids. It keeps tangling to a minimum and it allows the perfect amount of conditioner to be left in my hair after washing.

1) Aphogee protein treatments aren't so scary. They actually work quite well on my hair.

2) I can stretch my relaxers 10 weeks w/o incident! I used to think that I had to relax every 4-5 weeks. 10 weeks is my new standard relaxer frequency.

What will 2007 reveal????:D :D

My 2006 Hair Discoveries:
- Henna is great for strength, shine, color, and gray coverage.
- Bone straight hair isn't for me.
- I pay the price if I stray from protective styles too long.
- I must moisturize and seal twice a week.
- Pre-poos are optional, but deep conditioning is mandatory.
- Proper nutrition, rest, and exercise is very important.

I love wash n go.
I love henna.
I don't need protective styles.
I'd rather have short healthy hair than long scraggly hair.
