is so annoying. What can I do to keep my hair from smelling like that? I keep my flat iron clean and wipe it between each pass and keep it at the lowest setting that can straighten my hair. I'm at a losserplexed Any advice?
Maybe the flat iron is too hot, even on the lowest setting. Burnt hair smell does not sound like a good thing at all. Something has to be burnt to have that smell. Do you see any heat damage?
i've read on here that if u use a heat protectant it reduces that whole burnt hair/smell since that means your hair is burning it worked for me but sometimes i got that smell but i believe it was because i didnt spray that section hope that helps
This was my first time doing a full head straightening since being natural and I never used flat irons when I was relaxed.
I used Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Cream. I used a cheapie flat iron from Walmart, a Remington ceramic wet to dry - 19.99. The thing with this one was I didn't smell hair burning while I was flatironing, but when I went to bed, I smelled that burnt hair smell on my pillow. When I washed I didn't have any heat damage.
But before that I tried out a FHI technique iron on just one part of my hair and it made my hair smell burnt too. I don't remember what kind of protectant I used with that. I think just some leave in conditioner. But my hair was smoking after just one pass with that, and it didn't have adjustable heat settings. I was afraid of heat damage so I didn't continue with that.
I just tried using the InStyler today, which straightened well, but that smell... I only straightened the front bc of the burning smell.
^^^^ I don't think that anti-humidity cream is an actual heat protectant. You need something specifically for that. I'm sure if you search on here a lot of threads will come up.
I used to straighten my hair years ago and that burnt smell means your hair is being burned. It may not show damage now, but if you keep straightening without something to protect your hair the damage will eventually show up. Some people's hair just can't take a lot of heat.
