Thank you to all the ladies who were so helpful with planning our wedding. All your tips and recommendations made things a whole lot easier. My day of coordinator was impressed that I was able to plan so much and get things done prior to her coming in a month before the wedding to tie up loose ends.
A few tips for upcoming brides.
1. Do subtract at least 2-3 people from your final head count to your caterer. My reception was a plated menu dinner, so I did not have to provide the caterer an exact count of who wanted what dish as the ordering took place the day of . There will be no shows and cancellations the day of the wedding. I undercounted by two people I think, and ended up with five no shows. This worked out however as one of my hubby's trifling friends brought a date even though we told this dude not to and an acquaintance of a guest subbed in for another trifling cousin who cancelled last minute, so I only overpaid by one person.
2. Do have a day of coordinator or point person. My DOC handled everything the day of and also had an assistant helping out. This way, my bridal party, my mom, close family, and I did not have to worry about small inconsequential details.
3. Take a breather during the day to look at yourself in the mirror and really reflect on how you look. Also, take some me time in between cocktail hour and prior to your announcement into the reception hall to relax and eat some food.
4. Give people a fake starting time. I told folks to arrive 30 minutes prior to the actual ceremony b/c our people are trifling. My priest was surprised that I actually made it to the church 10 minutes before my true start time b/c he is so used to brides running ridiculously late. I made it to the church before my mother in law and other VIPs on my hubby's side cuz I saw their behinds running up the steps from my limo .
5. If you are having a local wedding, get ready inside of a nearby hotel. This made my life super easier b/c I packed up my stuff when we were done and left the mess (and a nice tip) for the hotel staff to clean up. Couldn't imagine cleaning up a prep area the next day or after the honeymoon.
6. Most importantly, ENJOY! 98.5% of my wedding was exactly like I planned. The parts that were not were only known by me, not my guests. Once you have ample food and an open bar then everything will be alright!
