\"texturizers\"

My hair is driving me crazy. I've been trying to grow it long, but it's so curly/frizzy, it makes me want to shave my head. Anyway, I know that a "texturizer" or "silkener" is nothing but a relaxer with less time, but I think I would like to get one of them done. Then my hair would be longer, and since the hair at the top of my head isn't as curly, I think growing it out would be easier without all the curl.

After that mouthful...I'm wondering, are there any 3C's out there who have gotten a texturizer/silkener? Any tips on brand or salon? (I'm in Maryland/DC area) Thanks in advance!

Re: \"texturizers\"

I'm 3c/4a and my hair is texturized using Motions Oil mild relaxer, and I have used Revlon Realistic mild relaxer. I've been texturizing for over a year. I was natural for about 2 1/2 years, but as my hair grew it just was too much for me to manage because it is pretty thick, so I don't think I was getting it adequately moisturized and I suffered some breakage. Anyway, the texturizing has helped as far as managing my hair better. I think if you are just looking to loosen your curls, the Motions Oil mild relaxer is a good choice. I left that relaxer on my hair up to 30 minutes (actually trying to relax my hair) and although it definitely loosened my curls, when I wear my hair out and curly, people still look at me funny when I say I have a relaxer because it's still big. Although I'm too lazy to straigthen my hair I definitely think it will be much easier compared to when I was natural. I do my own hair. Hope that helps.
