Tex-laxing tomorrow

I have made the decision that I can stretch for about 6 months and then my hair starts breaking really bad. There are some styles that I want to wear that I simply can not right now because its won't look right now I am going to tame my hair down just a bit at the new growth and go from there. I have come to realize through this site and other avenues that its about hair care! There are naturals that don't take care of their hair and then there are relaxers that don't take care of their, however there are people from both spectrums that do and have great progress. I am now equipped with the tools to take care of my own hair with chemicals. There could be a day when I stretch for a year, but right now I am going to stretch 4 to 5 months and then give myself a touch up...

Hey, girl......you finally made your decision. Well, I say go for it!

All the best!!!

Yeah I figure that stretching would still give me the natural look, although not all natural and texlaxing just calms the natural texture. It won't be natural because I have chemicals but its workable.

Sorry I couldn't wait until the end of the summer like you..but I haven't done it yet so there is still time to change my mind LOL

Hey, I understand. I'm still on the fence about doing it at the end of the summer. I'll see what happens...see how I feel!

I say do what ever is best for you and your hair. I attempted to transition (I was trying to do it without the BC) and made it to 8.5 months, I didn't suffer too much breakage, but decided to texlax because I want long hair and I felt that it was the quickest way to achieve it  .....and I got tired of dealing with all the newgrowth. Thanks to LHCF I know how to maintain healthy relaxed hair. Strething for the length of time I did taught me how to deal with the two textures and I will now stretch for 5-6 months.

that was in valuable lesson. I want long, healthy hair, but don't want to spend hours twisting and ponderirng what to do with it. I know that I can devote time to roller set, flexirod my hair and then go on about my week. I feel better about doing this now because of all the valuable lessons I have learned about hair care. Scared of doing it myself but oh well right LOL

This is where I am right now. I just have no clue what to do with it. I thought about texturizing just to get rid of some of the shrinkage but I'm not sure.

On the brighter side, now that you're better informed about taking care of your hair, it will thrive chemicals or no chemicals. Do what's best for you and your hair. :)

thanks flyygirl!!! It has taken me a long time to come this conclusion and although I am scared I know that I will be fine. I already have numerous styles in mind and if all else fails, because I am still staying away from direct heat, trimming, and color...I know how to do a roller set like nobody's business!

I could use some lessons!
I like using flexirods, they're easier and I can do them quickly.

Just a word of encouragement. I was natural for six years and finally texlaxed and I am SOOO glad that i did. I absolutely love my hair. I did it myself and I do all of my own trims too. My hair is longer and healthier than it's ever been. My goal is APL and I hope to make it there this year. I have healthy hair and I'm happy with it. My bf thinks it's just gorgeous.

I can't go on enough about texlaxing and how much of a difference it made with my 4a/b hair. So far I've self texlaxed twice since January and Ihave one more time to go in August until the end of the year.

I used Mizani and followed a method similar to Isis (love her hair). Make sure and take pics and share your results. I hope it all goes well for you and don't be scared!

You had me stalking Isis' fotki. I am going to use her tex-laxing method. Like her I was tex-laxed before it had a name, I can stand perms in my hair for that long so my hair dresser always used to complain about how they never "took". Oh well, tomorrow I am going to take pictures of the process and make sure that I take my time. I am sure that I am going to love this because it gives me the best of both worlds.
