Hello all. I am new to this site. I located this site via Surge. I purchsed the product because my hair is so dry and brittle. I did a search on the product and landed on this site. I have had problems with my thyroid and eventually had it removed. Now my hair is very dry, brittle, and always breaking. it does not seem to grow.

I have type 4 kinky hair. I actually just cut it down today as it was uneven Now my hair is about 1/8 in. In the back and sides. I wigs while I am trying to grow it back. Any suggestions? I just started surge a week ago. I have the spray and lotion. nerither seem to really be working. Maybe I should give it time?

Welcome! :)
first of all i would wait on the surge. try some other alternatives to accelerating hair growth because your hair is dry and brittle. here are some suggestions:

1)Condition washing
2)Protective styles
3)DEEP CONDITION!!!
4)Try a scalp oil with natural ingredients that will stimulate hair growth and scalp health (ex: jojoba oil base, rosemary eo, tea tree eo, lavender eo)
5)Take supplements/vitamins (biotin, MSM, multi, GNC)

What is a protective style for a small afro?

You maybe a little limited with the protective styles but if you have at least 3 inches of hair you can cut some drinking straws in half and wrap your hair around them. Secure with a bobby pin and you have nice little curls. Very cute! I would also suggest that you try doing the baggie trick, since you have short hair all you have to do is use one of those conditioning plastic caps, spray your favorite moisturizers or oils on your hair and sleep with the cap on overnight. You'll be amazed at how soft your hair will be.

:) Welcome to the site. I'm also a newbie, you will learn alot from this site. With some time and being open to suggestion your hair will be at cheek level in no time.

Alli77,

I would like to do this baggie method w/my short hair. Do I condition wash in the morning? Also, just to make sure do I baggie my hair everynight?
thanks in advance alli77

If you're wigging it, be sure to protect your hair under the wig. Some use wig caps/stocking caps, I would personally use a satin scarf. Yes it's slippery but I feel more comfortable with that on my head than the material of the wig cap. There may be some out there that are of different material that won't encourage dryness or breaking. Also, moisturize and seal daily.

First, throw all that Surge stuff in trash.
Second, just let your TWA be.
After time it'll grow out.
I've juggled around with different product but I've always came back to the same routine: co-wash & StaSofFro

I wash my hair with Herbal Essences Intensive Blends Replenishing Conditioner.
After I use StaSofFro gel as a leave-in conditioner.
When my hair dries I use StaSofFro spray as a moisturizer.
Not much you can do with styling so just pick it out and go. :)
Oh yeah, you do have a satin pillow case right????

Hey thanks everyone. I feel so encouraged already. I feel love.

I am currently on a vitamin regimen from a naturopathic doctor. I will list them at a later time. Thank soooo much for the advice and keep it coming.

Again... thanks for the warm welcome.

CatSuga:

How often do you wash your hair? It funny that you use the StaSofFro. My Uncle uses that and has ever since I can remenber. His hair is thick. He is almost 70 if not 70. I actually used some when I went to visit him and it did feel pretty nice.

About every 3-4 days.

How is your health now?
You mentioned that you had your thyroid removed.
Are you exercising and drinking lots of water?

I have a Twa as of now but it is growing out of it real quick and I keep my routine simple,I know how that dryness can make you angry, I just recently found a few products that makes my hair very soft and moisturized all day long and that is Qhemet Biologics, I have also used Sta sof fro and s-curl spray when QB wasn't around and it just didn't do nothing for my hair, but Hey your hair might love Sta Sof Fro, I have like 4b hair and it is thick and dry, I don't do Conditioner washes because it just don't work for my hair, But I shampoo with Cream of Nature for dry brittle hair or I will shampoo and condition with Suave Milk n Honey about 1-2x a week. I don't know, this is just what works for me,you have alot of great advice given here,I am sure your hair is growing it is just growing at a slow rate,Don't give up though! I can't wait until I can have me a Afro Puff or a BAA, Good Luck !

I had my thyroid removed in 2002. I lost a lost my Dad 2003. My hair has bald spots in it so I keep cutting it down. i fgues i just need to be patiebt and massage my scalp. However, it seems as though my hair is "always" shedding.

My health is pretty good. I was exercising until I sprained my ankle then I became lazy. It is time to start again as I have put on weight. I would like to loose about 15 pounds. I know the holidays are coming up..... :ohwell:

I had my thyroid removed 8 years ago. Under active thyroid or no thyroid can have obvious effects on our hair. (ie dryness, breakage, bald spots) You should make sure that your thyroid levels are well balanced and use a hair vitamin (any type that doesnt conflict w/thyroid medication or take it @ a different time of day) . The key is to be consistant with the vitamin supplements and keeping healthy thyroid level. You can have a great outter care regimen, but if your hormones aren't balanced it won't help you with your goals.

I would also be careful with constant wig use.

PS I love sta-so-fro too. it's inexpensive and works really nice for my dry hair.

do you mind telling me what QB product(s) you are using? My hair type is 4b and I would love to find a natural replacement for s-curl.
