I'm officially on "some sort of effort" program....;)
what is the NORMAL amount of shedding....do you guys (particularly ones who are experienced)....experience breakage every week...at all? Little? Hope this question is clear..... :perplexed

It's normal to shed *up* to 100 hairs per day.

I admit though, if I shed that many per day I would scream!

I do experience some breakage at times, and when I do I work towards finding a healthy balance between protein and moisture to correct the breakage. Depending on how bad it is, you may even have to get rid of some of your ends. IMO, the healthiest hair has no breakage!! I would strive towards eliminating it completely.

I shed all the time, and I have noticed lately it's been more than usual. I'm trying not to stress about it and just keeping an eye on it for now. I don't really have an answer for what is normal, I never got into counting hair and I've heard conflicting averages for what is normal daily loss (100 hairs/day...less...etc.). I think the bet way to tell what is normal is to look at your own hair and see how much you lose on a daily basis. If it increases at some point you may be in your shedding cycle. If it lasts for a long time, gets worse, or you experience thinning hair...then I would be alarmed. HTH! :)

I would say I shed about 80 strands per day or less. I'm more concerned with breakage, though I seem to have it under control now.

Alot of breakage is when you see thoes tiny little broken hairs all on the back of your shirt, in the sink and on the floor etc... when you comb your hair!

I think I'm doing a little of both but less than 15-20 hairs at a time though. 100!!!!!!! *aahhhhh* I would PASS OUT! (I'm very dramatic by the way)

Ummm...I was trying to say was....is it possible to even have a LITTLE breakage (say while you're pooing) and still have decently healthy hair. I've had zero breakage at some point but not all the time....

I was hoping my situation was all THAT hopeless....:)

I don't think hair is healthy if shampooing causes it to break. Are you sure it's the shampooing that's causing it? But you can still have healthy hair with a LITTLE breakage.

This sounds perfectly normal to me. It's easier to break hair when it's wet, so if you lose a couple of strands here and there, I wouldn't worry.
:)

I shed about 100 per day. :( My hair almost never breaks. If I see broken hairs, then I give it more moisture. I am careful with combing it too.

I don't understand, I thought shedding causes hair to be on the floor, back of your shirt too?

The way I can tell the difference between the two, if my hair is really uneven and broken in areas, I know that it's breakage. Shedding, if hair is still the same length, growing, and no major damage.

The way I can tell if it's too much is if my hair is severly uneven than it was the day before. Oh snap!

I agree! That goes for shedding too... at least for me. It's not normal for my hair to shed much. Also, I don't get much breakage in my combs so if I see more than say.... a few hairs (I don't count either) than I freak out. That 100 strands of hair a day thing? Please! I'd freak out if I shed that many a day too.

OT: MzTami, I just love your quote and the end of your posts!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I positively molt each and every spring. I'm talking handfuls of hair. It's surreal, really. :p Each time I'd brush or run my hands through my hair, I'd have it coming out, long whispy hairs sometimes trailing past my elbows. I used to be really concerned about it but now i just shrug it off. :look:
