Hello ladies, my question is , is it ok to get tattoos? From my understanding tattoos were banned because at the time the pagans had tattoos and such. I want to get two tattoos one that says Jehovah Rapha, possibly in Hebrew and Proverbs 3:5-6 in Hebrew. Is this ok?

Nowadays, what makes you think it is different ?

Rom. 12.1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 12.2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The pagans still have tattoos...

But really, I think the question is whether such and such a thing is something that the Lord deems an acceptable offering to Him. It doesn't just depend on our thoughts and feelings, but rather on the Lord's opinion. We can't offer Him just anything; so while some may get religious tattoos, we still have to ask whether tattooing ourselves is a way that the Lord has called us to honor Him in our bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

You need to ask Him, not us.

Leviticus 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Some may think if they get a cross or some praying hands, that it makes it right. But no a tattoo is a tattoo no matter what it is.he said the things He has called unclean ,we can't make them clean. So if he said its wrong, we can't make it right. So no, u shouldnt get a tattoo. We dont have to prove we love God by putting His name on our bodies, but we honor him by our lifestyle and devotion to Him. Tattoos and wordly and traditions of the heathens, he said he called us to be a royal priesthood, a holy nation, PECUILAR, we not like everyone else....:yep:

^^I agree. Something to consider is you must make sure any tattoos you get done are done with sterile tools else you open yourself up to being infected with Hepatitis C. And that's not the will of God. So I would definitely seek God and study His Word before making this decision.

Great question OP and I'm of the persuasion that it is the Holy Spirit who will convict a person. It costs much more to remove a tat than it does to get one...even those DIY kits, which sound harmful to me.

Great point InVue on infections!

Saw a man on TBN a few months back with at least 80% of his body cvered with them, he got saved and wanted them removed but didn't have the money to do it, He got involved with this organization who was willing to remove the ones from off of his face for free, he had tatts of the three stooges in his face ...

I got one before I got saved, believe me I wanted at least two more but stopped with the one...they are very addicting, I wonder why, mmmhhh.

I see lots of christians with tattoos, even pastors sons and daughters who claim to be saved and many more who are in the music 'gospel' music industry...

I don't know why if God says we shouldn't do something that we insist on doing the opposite what he says...just because the tatts are 'religious' in nature; like a cross or wings or the face of Jesus, it doesn't make the tattoo any more acceptable to God....

I wouldn't do it because we are called to be holy and set apart from the practices of the world. Regardless of whether the tattoo is "Christian" or not, getting a tattoo usually brings more glory to the person than to God. I could be wrong, but I doubt anyone has been led to Christ from seeing someone's Bible verse or Jesus tattoo, especially considering where it might be on the person's body.

To be clear: I'm not advocating tattoos on Christians. There are Christians who may already have had them before getting saved and still have them for one reason or another; so I'm careful not to judge! It's a great question for discussion, is my point.

I do know it costs a lot to have them removed. I've never had tattoos and don't believe in a Christian getting them.

Thanks Laela.

BTW, as a Christian I don’t condone getting tattoos either. I mentioned making sure the tools were sterile because of the blood borne diseases such as (Hep/HIV) that can be contracted in this manner. And I’m not sure people consider the potential risk involved. As one can have tattoos removed but once a disease enters your blood steam... I don't mean to scare or offend anyone just to alert.

Thanks for all the replies ladies. You all bring up good points. I read an article on gotquestions.org and was left a bit confused. But they tend to say things I don't agree with. One of the things was the possibility of bringing a non-believer to Christ and opening up the conversion with them. Another point was, would your tattoo honor God. I have always wanted one, but after seeing them on my friend it kind of changed my mind. I'm still not sure, but I really doubt I will ever get a tattoo. It was just something I really started to consider. Plus I'm a gremophobe :nono:

 Dear Jynlnd... there are so many health risks involved with tatoos. A foreign substance in being injected beneath the surface of your skin... :nono: This alone is one's answer from God's will.

God has clothed us in His loving righteousness...we have beautiful skin, God's gift to us. Cherish and protect it inside and out. It's just that special.
