Taking out braids and need help

Okay ladies, I am taking out my braids this weekend and I need to know what I need to do to my hair. I know that I need to do a DC, but do I need protein as well?? I'm natural btw. Okay, so I had some braid hair that I took back to the bss, and I had a store credit. So the PJ came out in me because I thought about all the stuff people had talked about when it comes to protein and DC. So, what should I use as a DC?? I have the following items:

Silk Worm DC sample, ORS Replenishing Pak, Silk Elements Mega Cholestorol, Joico Intense Hydrator, and Elasta QP DPR-11.

The next question is what should I use for protein?? Do I need something hard or mild?? Here's what I have:

AO GBP, Joico K-Pak, Motions CPR, Keraphix, and Emergencee. I hope I don't have to use something as strong as Emergencee, because I don't think my hair likes that much protein.

And lastly, do I need to sit under the dryer with the protein the same way that I would do with the DC??

I'm soo excited!!! I ready to see my hair and play with my coils again!!! Okay, TIA ladies!!!

Hey Ms. Twana!:)

After I take out my braids, I do a light protein treat and deep condition. If you feel that your does not need Emergencee, then I wouldn't even bother using it.

If you decide to use a protein treatment, you don't have to get under the dryer. That step is optional.

For your deep conditioner, I would probably use ORS Replenishing Pak only becuase I've never used the others. I'm sure more girls will chime in to help:)

Have fun with your hair this weekend!!!

After taking out my braids I always do some sort of deep conditioner. Lately I do a prepoo with Aubrey GPD and Cholesteral and then I wash and do a deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner, usually ntm daily deep conditioner or the mask. Are you using any type of protein based spritz or spary on your braids everyday? If you feel that you don't need a heavy protein treatment I say don't do one. Well thats my two cents. I hope it helps.

The first thing I do after carefully detangling is clarify (then detangle again); after that I henna. The rest is dictated by my hair. If it needs protein I add it; if it needs moisture I add that. Sometimes I'll do it just for the heck of it, but that has gotten me in trouble before. :yep:

I was spraying with a Infusium/humectress/oil mix like twice a day at first. Then it went to once a day. And lately since I've grown tired of these braids, I spray like every other day. I think Infusium has protein in it because that's what the C&G lady said to use for strength.

I usually spray my hair with a detangler, comb it out thoroughly, and proceed to shampoo and deep condition my hair. I rarely do protein treatments as I find they have a very drying effect on my hair.

thanks for posting this! I will try this the next time I take my braids down.

Don't forget to detangle first. That is just as important as conditioning.
I removed my braids after having them for about two months. I thought I removed all of the dead hair by finger combing, but after rinsing my hair I had a tangle of dead hair that caused me to lose about two inches of hair on one side of my hair. I tried for two days to get that tangle out, but I could not get it all out. So just make sure you get all the dead hair out and detangle good first. HTH
