Take Down \"Braid Removal\"

Has anyone here tried "Take Down" for removing braids, weave, and locks? I'm going to be taking out twist extensions soon and i usally lose a lot of hair, i'm trying to prevent that and am thinking about trying this product. It's supposed to "prevent hair damage and balding. It penetrates through matted and tangled hair so that it can be combed through easily. It's fast, hasslefree, and painless"

Zuppy, are you sure the hair that you lose isn't hair that would have shed anyway, but for the braids or twists? Since you can't comb your hair in braids and twists, no shedding takes place. So when we take down extensions, what looks like excess hair loss is just the hair that didn't have a chance to shed.

Just a suggestion.

I'd be curious to hear whether anyone has tried these products and what the results were. I'm gonna be taking down my braids in a few weeks & I'm always looking for something to make the process easier.

Hey Kitkat,

Yeah, I know about the shedding... it's the seperating of the hair (each twist) after I take the twist out. I have to pull apart the knotted area (where the braid - twist- was started). The hair is so matted I can hear and feel the ripping of my hair as I try and pull apart the hair. Last time I don't think I combed out enough...and when I washed I had serious knots in my hair afterward, so when trying to comb through conditioner I could feel and hear my hair ripping apart

I had such a sinking feeling in my stomach when I heard it. I had big clumps of hair comming out.

I use better braids unbraid spray when removing my braids and I do not lose a whole lot hair the spray is very moisterizing and makes the hair reallly soft.

I never have a tangles or knots in my hair and I use lust

You can use any of the moisturizer sprays (S-Curl, World of curls) with the same effect. Saturate the braids beforehand (an hour or overnight). Then take the braids down. When you get to the the beginning of the braid, rub gently between your finger tips to remove buildup. Comb thru your hair with a wide tooth comb as you take it down (take down 3-4 and comb thru); Don't ever take all of your hair down and then attempt to comb thru

You will get shedding, just as you would if you were combing each day. It will look like a lot, but its probably not. Pay close attention to your edges in braids and out. Most of the time, if noticable hair loss is going on, that is where you will see it.

Good luck!
