Im hanging in there. I just relaxed and using no heat. Its a jungle in there, but im good. Im taking my vits so im good.

The people who are using no heat, when you say 'no heat' do you mean no direct heat or have you cut out all heat entirely? I still use my hood dryer, but I'm going to try and limit the usage to once a week though.

For me, I use no direct heat, i.e hand blowdryers and flatirons. I use the conditioning cap when I DC, however it went out on me, so I don't even have that. Due to where Im at, i haven't used heat in a long time.

Oops I so forgot I joined this challenge. Just needed a reminder. Of course this is the entire reason why I joined this board so I will continue to participate. Things are going really well. Still trying to figure out my regi and identify my staple products. I'm also trying to figure out this heat vs no heat thing. I will airdry. Then I think I will flatiron on low heat. Bone straight is not my goal. I also need to focus on filling in my edges and hydrating my ends.

I am totally in on this challenge!!

I havent used heat on my head since maybe march/april, and I am 100% natural..was going to get a perm earlier today after frusteration but I did a really DEEP conditioner and my hair thanked me a whole lot for it :-D

I recently trimmed my ends and started cowashing and wearing my puffs again. I thought I wanted "heat damaged/trained" hair but I decided that I like curly hair too, so I'm given up heat except special occasions(10/17/08, 11/22/08, 1/11/09, 03/07/09) hopefully I'll change my mind about these dates and straighten even less. The last month or so I was abusing the heat but now I feel like I'm getting back on the right track. BTW I'm almost 7 months post!!!

New KISS Regimen:
co wash and oil rinse nightly(d/t cold weather)
wear puff and spritz throughout the day w/ oil and water mix
poo & dc every two weeks
clarfy once a month

How long have you been natural?

Umm I'm starting to see more breakage. Right before I started taking care of my hair I saw a lot. Then when I started taking care of my hair the breakage completely stopped. I will try to up the protein and hope that is the key. I'm wondering if it is the airdrying? I've airdryed the last few times I've washed. I've seen some not so favorable things about that lately. We'll see that will be phase 2 if upping the protein doesn't nip this in the bud.

Hey what are you using? You noticed more breakage after starting this? Or is it lessening? Also, what products do you use?

I think the breakage is the result of a couple of things. I was doing a heavy protein tx the week bf my relaxer, during my relaxer, and the week after my relaxer. I saw little to no breakage. Then my next protein tx wasn't until this Tuesday--4 weeks later. So maybe my hair loves the protein? My protein tx consisted of conditioner, one egg, and evoo.

I also moisturize 2x/day. I think that was initially necessary bc my hair was extremely dry but now that I am taking care of my hair and using products that actually work on my hair maybe I need to only moisturize once a day?

I am in the midst of transitioning my products:

Prepoo--Carol's Daughter Khoret Ahmen Hair Oil and switched to Hairveda's Vatika Frosting

Shampoo--Carol's Daughter Rosemary Mint Shampoo and plan to transition to CON (green)

Conditioner--HV's Moist 24/7

Protein Conditioner--HV's Moist Condition Pro (ordered and waiting to get it so I haven't used it yet)

Deep Conditioner--Carol's Daughter Hair Smoothie Tui or Khoret Ahmen and plan to transition to HV's Sitrinillah Deep Conditioning Masque

Leave In--Carol's Daughter Leave in Spray (can't remember which one) and switched to Giovanni Direct Leave In

Moisturizer--Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and plan to transition to HV's
Whipped Baggy Cream

Sealant--Carol's Daughter Khoret Ahmen Hair Oil and switched to HV's avosoya oil

The reason for all of the transitioning to new products:
find products that meet the needs of my hair--once I started paying attention I realized the ones I had were not

go as natural as possible w/o sacrificing the needs of my hair

...whew long answer!

I haven't seen a lot of breakage or damage since cowashing daily. Also, it seems that I have't had felt any single strand knots either! Maybe oil rinsing really is the TRUTH! I don't plan on detangling until I straighten it on the 17th,hopefully I don't lose too much hair.

Count me in. I promise to love and cherish my hair and will never ever let an unqualified person put chemicals on it.

Okay brief update...I recently checked my hair, and it's growing and it does have way less shedding than before..My only issue is mositure...thanks to being caught up with school and with work, the moisture department is slacking...SO this is my time for checks and balances...Gotta seriously start doing more Deep conditioning and moisture daily.. How's it going with all you guys??

Very exciting to see that it's growing, but I wish it was more moisturized...So in an attempt to regain moisture and to gain some length and no shedding, I have employed better hair care skills.
