Anyone ever use syrup on your hair? Don't laugh:lol:
The thought occured to me today. Couldn't it work like honey or molasses:confused: It has pretty much the same consistency...and I'm referring to the kind you use on pancakes...

Also in my kitchen is Vegetable oil which is cheaper than olive oil...Has anyone tried veggie oil or canola oil or peanut oil? If the oil molecules are too big to be absorbed by the hair, does the type of oil really make a difference? Am I wasting an extra $3-4 per bottle on evoo? Could I really be using this?

I only use oils for overnight sealing/baggying and I always wash it out in the morning. I'm thinking any oil will work...since Crisco works:look:...

I don't know...:look:

I use honey in my deep conditioners because honey is a humectant and will draw moisture in. Pancake syrup is mostly all corn syrup. I don't know if sugar/corn syrup is actually a humectant.

100% pure maple syrup MIGHT work, but the sort like Ms. Butterworths...that's mostly high fructose corn syrup, and that's not going to work.

Vegetable oil--I don't know. If I REALLY needed some oil, I'd use it in a pinch, but different oils have different health properties, as well as different benefits for skin, hair, etc. I don't think there's anything left that's benefical in plain old veggie oil. Olive, grapeseed, avocado, jojoba (which is a wax, not an oil), carrot...plenty of more benefical oils to try.

i have used vegetable oil to seal, and i dont think its doing me any detriment....:look:
And if its not keeping the moisture in, ill just moisturise some more!

When I was researching honey a year ago, I found out that molasses and pure maple syrup work in a similar fashion. I have added all three to my conditioner in the past. I have also used vegetable oil, which is soybean oil, to stretch another oil like almond, grapeseed or jojoba.

ETA: Just did a mini-search, pure maple syrup and corn syrup (the kind you use for baking) are humectants. In my research on canola oil, I read too many bad things about it. I don't even use it to fry with anymore.

I use vegetable oil with no ill effect (Peanut oil mostly). The only reason why people use EVOO is because it doesn't go through as much boiling and processing as veggie oil does.

I am unsure about the syrup thing though. And for all of you going ewwww, keep in mind that Honey is nothing but bee barf :barf:

Most syrup is high frutcose corn syrup and other artifical chemicals. I'd rather use the bee barf. Yummmmmmm! Vegetable oil should be ok. Sometimes when I cook with it and it gets on my hands I'll rub it in my hair.

I have used veggie oil with no ill effects- it actually made my hair shiny and super soft. I used it on wet hair after co-washing.

I've used peanut oil (very, very good for hair and skin) and regular vegetable oil on my hair, especially on the length when relaxing, and I like it very much.

Grade B maple syrup might work. It's packed with almost all the vitamins and minerals our bodies need for health (see the Master Cleanse threads in the Health forum). I wouldn't want to try regular pancake syrup on my hair though.

This sounds interesting. I might have to try the peaunut oil. I'm on a relaxer strech and my new growth is getting a lil' uncontrollable. I don't think I'll be trying the syrup though.

I wouldn't use canola oil but peanut oil and vegetable shortening which I think is soybean oil is just as good as the other oils so I would use it. Don't use fake syrup tho, use real honey, maple syrup or molasses
