SYMPTOMS, VITAMIN OVERLOAD?

Hey ladies,

I hope y'all had a wonderful weekend. I'm doing all right. ANYhow, I just have a quick question, have any of y'all noticed the following symptoms, while being on the Bargello regiment:
yellow coated tongue, dry throat, difficulty in swallowing, waking up in cold sweats, body fatigue, bruising easily, and sorry this is icky-- constipation.

I ask this, because in the past week, I have developed the above symptoms, and I'm wondering if any of the Bargello vitamins have the ability to increase potassium levels OR if the culprit is the Aldactone/Spironolactone my dermatologist prescribed OR if the two medicine regiments are working against each other. Anyhow, enough of this self-diagnosis, I am headed to the doctor, manana! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was just curious if any of y'all had developed the aforementioned symptoms...

Take care,

A.

Oh goodness! I really don't have any advice, because the only vitamin I take is a One A Day for health reasons. Even though a lot of people here take vitamins for hair I never wanted to start that. I'm not that desperate for my hair to grow any longer than it is. I wouldn't know about all these things that I would be putting into my body. Too much of a good thing can be very bad. Maybe you should consult your doctor because taking these supplements.

Thank you Miss J for your response! Hopefully, someone on this board will be able to add a little insight...

If not, the doctor better be able to!

Thank you again,

A.

I experienced body fatigue... aching bones, sensitive skin. I felt like I had the flu? I didn't know if it was normal or not. I still don't know. But it did go away after the first week. You can see what I was taking below.

I'm on a bargello-type plan and have had no problems.
It could be the medication you or on, or the vitamins. It is also possible that the increased vitamins are incompatible with your meds. In any case I would stop the vitamins immediately and see what happens. Talk to your doc as well.

You do not want to take Spironolactone with any supplements with potassium in them. Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic (meaning that it causes you to retain potassium instead of excreting it into your urine) so if you take it along with potassium-containing supplements you can have an "overload." Most importantly, you have dysrythmias (abnormal heart rythyms), which can be deadly.

As far as the dry mouth and constipation goes, that is actually a pretty normal side effect of spironolactone treatment. Since it is a diuretic it causes you to lose sodium and water, so you end up getting dehydrated more quickly.

It's good that you're going to the doctor tomorrow. Let us know what happens. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

With these symptoms, you should probably see a doctor (especially since you're also on medication).

I agree with that. Please keep us posted. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I take a bunch of hair vitamins and haven't experiend any of the symtoms you described.... not a one. Let us know what your doc says.

I haven't experiened any of those but you be careful. the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) amounts specify how much of each nutrient/vitamin your body needs each day, this is only a guide though cause some need more things than others at a particular time.
When you overdue esp, on something your body does'nt need it goes haywire, so so speak.

I would stick with a good multi for awhile and let your body tell you what it's deficient in.
