switching to a *super* relaxer???!!!

i can no longer take my unruly hair.
mizani *normal/regular* only straightens my edges, nape and some of the front.
my crown area isn't 4 b, it's 4z!
somehow the texture in this area changed after i had surgery last year.

since my regular hairdresser refuses to relax me "straighter" or use a *super* on me, i've talked to another one who said she'd use optimum *super*.
it gave me phenomenal results in college! so did designer touch *super*!

she promised to apply the optimum *super* to my 4z area first then the rest of my head.
is optimum a good way to go for *super* relaxers?
any suggestions?

I don't know about optimum, but super is awefully strong, you don't want to ruin your hair so why not try other relaxers first? Have you tried motion regular?, that is pretty good with unruly hair.

I've always heard negative things about Optimum being extremely strong even in regular strength.

may be true, but it did me so right in undergrad and my hair is so much coarser now!
keep the insights coming, ladies

I used Optimum Super with my last relaxer and it was ok. I liked Mizani Super better, but it left me a bit underprocessed. I'm thinking of going back, maybe with Mizani Regular and leaving it on a bit longer. I don't know... I'm confused about relaxers as well.

its just so hard to have so many different textures of hair on ONE HEAD!

my edges in the front may be a 3c because they're wavy and don't get nappy! everyplace else is a 4a/b, but my crown (NO EXAGGERRATION) is a 4Z! the new hairdresser could only say Wow  when she saw it.

someone else here has go to have the same struggle???????

Mizani Super left me underprocessed too and I tried to leave it on as long as I could.

based on your replies, i'm leaning toward the optimum super.
for those who've used mizani super, do you think you were underprocessed b/c u were scared to leave it on too long?

No, I like to tough it out:lol:. I know crazy. Plus, I used it once and thought is was something I did. So I did a "corrective" about 6 weeks later and it still turned out the same way. I thought that it was other factors (like too much vaseline base) but I realized that it was the relaxer.

Are you referring to Optimum No-Lye or Optimum Multi Mineral?
Im considering using the latter for my next touch up.

I've been using Optimum no lye regular for years and LOVE it. As far as the super, I haven't used it, but my Mom, who has ultra coarse hair, used it and it gave her sores on her head. Could you just leave the regular on longer?

Optimum Multi-Mineral. I used this last time and I have half a jar left. Maybe I should just finish the jar and then find something new.

Since you are still trying to find something that works even better. I will keep searching too. I use Revlon Lye Regular at the moment. I leave it on for about 25mins (10 mins more than recommended) and it never gets my hair quite where I want it but the underprocessed hair is bearable.
For as long as I remember I dont base my scalp and I dont remember ever have been burnt so I know the underprocessing is not because of too much petroleum jelly on my scalp.

I don't base either, and I underprocess all of the time. I think that LYE and my hair don't get along. I'm thinking of trying something no-lye, but I'm worried about the supposed dryness. Then again, so many beautiful heads on this board use no-lye... I have 2 weeks to decide. :ohwell:

I used Optimum super for years. It dries the hair out more then Mizani does. I'd go w/Mizani super.

OP here!

Saturday I got a touch-up Optimum *Super* done by a professional stylist, but not by my regular hairdresser who doesn't believe in using that strength or relaxing bone straight.

So far, grear results :D my previously underprocessed areas (from Mizani Regular) SEEM straight.
True test will be after I wash it myself and see if there's any reversion.
Will report back results for anyone who's interested!
I also plan to get my highlights done in two weeks. I know the thought of a super relaxer and highlights makes some of you scream  but i did it in college and grad school with no probs!

has anyone ever used silk elements relaxer? i used that my last time and it did my hair JUSTICE! it's the best relaxer i've run into and i've tried a lot...except for all the more expensive ones that you gotta order online! lol....
