Has anyone had adverse effects from swithcing relaxers... such as going from Lye to no lye and no lye to lye? Also, what about relaxer brands... did you notice any problems if you switched brands.

I'm asking because I went out and bought the phyotrelaxer...now i'm scared to use it.

I've used affirm the last three times I relaxed and it was fine...but that damn PJism took over and made me spend $60.00 on something I am now afraid to use...

So, I just want to get some feedback from you all in your experiences with changing up relaxsers.

TIA

I guess I could.. I did open it up though. But I may decide to use it.. depending on the feedback i get.

Okay...I didn't know that you'd opened it....but if a seal isn't broken you could probably still take it back.

Anyhoo, when I was relaxed, I didnt' really notice to much of a difference when I switched brands between no-lye relaxers. However, I experienced less build up when I went from no-lye to lye relaxers. However, I also tried to use all of the products in that particular line such as the relaxer, neutralizing shampoo, conditioners, leave-ins, gels, etc.

Hope this helps. Whatever you decide, please be careful.

I've switched brands of relaxers before (no-lye) and had no adverse effects on my hair. Now, the LYE to NO LYE and vice versa... I would like to know the answer to that b/c I've been thinking about switching to LYE myself.

Patience, when you say build-up are you referring to Calcium build up? How do you know you have that? Does your hair get hard or something?

When I would switch between lye relaxers, I didn't notice any difference. I think that may have been because they all pretty much contained the same active ingredients. Just make sure that you don't mix different brands...

My hair would feel kind of "rough" I guess is the best way that I could describe it when I would use no lye relaxers. When I switched to lye relaxers, my hair had a much smoother feel and finish to it.

Thx, Patience!

Why are you thinking of switching? Can you relate to what Patience describes as "build-up"?

From my experiences, i haven't had any bad experiences w/switching relaxers but I have noticed I can't use any of the relaxers like Bantu, TCB, Motions or Hawaiian Silky..my hair is usually underprocessed and my scalp is burnt..the phytorelaxer was the second best relaxer I have used; no discomfort and it evenly relaxed w/o buring...I perform the Mizani Sensitive Scalp because it is cost effective($11) and works just as well as the phytorelaxer..

I have a new stylist and I went from Mizani (no-lye) to Elucence (lye) yesterday. I've actually had better results with Elucence (lye)- but then again the techniques between the stylists could be different.
