Sweeping Shoulder Hair Breakage

I read in a magazine once that the reason it's so hard to grow your hair past your shoulders is because the ends are constantly at risk of breakage due to your clothes! Scarves, wool coats and even plain 'ol collars can rip your ends to pieces. For that reason, they suggested wearing protective styles until your hair falls completely over the collar.

I've been doing this but I just began to wonder - would that kind of damage always be a problem even after my hair grows past the collar? I would like to show my hair that I worked so hard for every once in a while.

Has anyone heard about this?

It on Grow a afro longer site. She says after it grows to you chest you can wear it out, but before it causes alot of friction. Alot of woman still reach their goals withour this technique, while some hair thrives with protectives style bun or braids. So both can be argued. Personally I think as long as you deep condition periodically, moisturize daily, and stretch your relaxers you can reach your goals. I also think there is a need for protective styles to a certain point, but not to a point where you feel you are not enjoying your peogress. I will say when you hair is at your shoulders be careful and keep those ends moisturized whether you wear them up or down.hth

This really is true. I wore my hair up alot at that grow out phase. Once it was longer, I wore it down and had no problems.

(So you will be able to show off all your hard work.;) )
