Succesful Mizani relaxer self-application

I haven't relaxed my hair since January. Last time I had it done @ the shop w/ Mizani no-lye. I noticed a bit of breakage afterward but not noticable( thinning, etc).

This time around I bought Mizani lye, super formula. My problem is w/ relaxing my own is I never get it straight enough. No matter how long I leave it in or smooth.

My hair came out really good. Not too straight, not too wavy either. I think the key to my relaxer was using a lot of cream. I'm usually very stingy, but I noticed at the shop they just slather that stuff on your head. So that's the approach I took, and I barely had to smooth it down. I was worried it was going to be too straight. I applied and smoothed in under the recommended time for once. No burning either.

The rinse out went equally well. I lost the amount of hair I lose in a normal wash. After neutralizing a few times I sprayed PCR by Kizure on my damp hair and let it sit for a few minutes. It's supposed to help remove relaxer residue and return the normal ph balance. After I rinsed that I applied Optimum protein to only the ends of my hair and let that sit for a few minutes as well. My hair felt very heavy and strong after I rinsed. I was pleasantly surprised. Deep conditioned, rinsed, and threw it in a bun.

My point in posting is for anyone who has self relaxed w/ lye and came out underprocessed. Try using alot of cream. This is the first my hair has actually came out perfect since I've been self relaxing almost a year ago.

I am now totally free of salons forever!!!!!

Congratulations!!! I hope to be joining this club very soon! I did self-relax in Dec and it came out great but for my next relaxer touch-up I went to the salon...I just felt like I should let the professionals do it but since then my hair just looks a mess! Of course I dont blame it all on the salon but I have no idea where I went wrong...maybe wrapping to often? who knows...anywho I said all this to say for my next touch up I am going to self relax again.

Where did you get the Mizani Lye?

well congrats to you! I am scared to return to self-relaxing. I used to like 6yrs ago and I used to relax the total length of my hair each time. :ohwell: (talk about mis-education). I went to hair cuttery and a spanish woman applied a mizani relaxer to my hair. she really knew what she was doing. Homegirl brought out her clock-timer and everything. :lachen: she applied it in 15mins total, which impressed the heck out of me. she applied cholesterol to my ends before she got started, which i really liked. and even before i went to my appt i applied Aphogee restructurizer spray and a generous amt of vaseline to my hair. this is the first time, i have had absolutely no breakage after a relaxer so i will continue this routine. although i will say my head burned like HECK! wooooooooo! it's because i had product build-up on my scalp and was scratching it throughout the week.........

This beauty supply store by my house. They carry the whole line. If you want some pm me and I can hook you up. I payed 20 for a regular size tub. The nuet. shampoo was about 20 bucks too.

I think it's better to do it yourself because you control the health of your hair. It does take practice but it is well worth it. It's taken me a whole year to finally do this right.

You're so lucky because you found someone who actually knows what they're doing. She based you and protected the previously relaxed hair. But I on the otherhand was tired of the burns, rough handling, mystery products, etc... So I am so happy I finally have this thing under wraps. I think protein is the key to reducing breakage either directly before/after. Your relaxing routine sounds excellent. Good luck w/ your hair journey.
