I bought some of this today and I noticed it has alcohol in it. I was wondering should I not use it since alochol drys the hair out. I was thinking of using it as a leave in.
To my knowledge not all alcohols are necessarily bad. Some are supposed to be moisturizing especially combined with other ingredients. Perhaps someone else can explain it much better than me. In any case I use suave awapuhi for conditioner washes and it makes a wonderful leave in/rinse out conditioner. I learned to try not to write off a product because it has 1 or 2 so called bad ingredients because everyones hair may react differently.
What is the alcohol....because a lot of the alchohol's found in conditioners are plant derived, mainly from coconut (cetyl, stearyl), and are actually good for the hair (well in most cases). They're mostly used as thickening agents. Now if its SD-40 which is found in hair spray, then that more than likely will dry your hair out.
HTH. Im not sure if my info is that accurate, but do a google search on the alcohol and it should be able to answer more of your questions.
I use this conditioner and the alcohol your referring to is Cetyl Alcohol. The alcohol that you should really stay away from is Isopropyl Alcohol.
Definition---> Cetyl Alcohol is a high purity fatty alcohol meeting NF specifications and is useful in cosmetic formulations for thickening, conditioning, opacity and emollience. It also gives a more velvety feel to the skin by reducing the undesireable oiliness of w/o formulas.
I'm not sure but near the bottom it just says alcohol, it's after sorbitol. The alcohol from the coconut is at the top. It doesn't say what type of alcohol.
