I see some people saying that they get their hair "pressed". What does that mean? Is it flatironing? Or is it the straightening comb? Is it better then a relaxer?

Straightening comb. Relaxing vs pressing depends on the individual. I personally don't care for relaxers anyymore. I straighten my hair with flatirons.

"Pressing" can also refer to flatirons. My hairdresser uses a marcel flat iron to press my hair and it turns out very well.

It is in a way healthier than a relaxer,b/c there is no sodium hydroxide or other harsh chemicals applied to the hair to break down the curl structure. Heat is used, but when done carefully, do not cause damage. The big problem,though--reversion. Pressing the hair is still fighting the hair's natural tendency to be curly-coily. So it's easy for hair to want to revert back in humidity or when it is wet. I pressed for a while when I had to stay wasy from relaxers, but I still had the ends of my hair relaxed. When I took baths, my hair kinked up. Forget showers! How do you press-n-curl girls do it?

I used to press my hair with a flatiron. I'd have reversion but that was mostly because I started to have night sweats. Anyway, when I take a shower/bath I keep my scarf on that I had on all night and then wear my showercap. That keeps all the moisture out.

I'm so jealous of those pics of Larenz Tate and Boris!
