Struggles of the fine haired natural

Hey, I've been a fine haired nappy head all ma life.

I finally found a regimen that works for me. I prepoo with olive oil and cheapie conditioner, cowash every friday or saturday, followed by a deep moisturizing conditioner with olive oil under a plastic cap. I detangle and flattwist with conditioner in. I rinse and dot my scalp with MT/OCT, spritz heavily with Care Free Curl Gold Hair and Scalp spray, slather on coconut oil. I untwist in the morning and I'm good for the week with just a light spritz of the Gold stuff and some coconut oil every night. I just make sure that I use one of my five bonnets strategically placed around the living room and bedroom.

Every other week, I chelate and do a protein treatment, I follow with a moisturizing dc and do the same routine.

My hair is doing good but it's still thin. The Gold stuff seems like the only thing that keeps my head moisturized. Creamy moisturizers don't seem to work for me.

That's my newbie regimen.

Maintaining a protein/moisture balance is essential for my hair. I need the protein to give my fine strands strength because too much moisture causes breakage.

Ah! The struggles of fine-haired naturals. I don't even know where to begin. My fine hair is always getting on my nerves (it needs moisture, but it gets weighed down easily; it needs protein, but it's protein sensitive). Although I have so much more to learn, I've acquired a wealth of information from the ladies of LHCF. What I've learned that works for me is:

1. Don't overmanipulate the hair: the constant combing and tugging leads to breakage. To cut down on manipulation, I wear a wig when I'm not wearing twist-outs & I keep my bonnet on when I'm in the house. I also fingercomb.

2. Conditioning is key: I have to use a deep conditioner every week.

3. Protein is key: Although I'm protein sensitive, I have to use protein every week. Too much moisture=breakage for me.

4. Wash in sections: it really cuts down on tangles. For the first time last night, I also applied my conditioner in sections. I realized that all of my hair wasn't being moisturized b/c I was just putting a glob of it onto my hair.

5. Take care of the ends: this is not so much of a fine-haired tip; it's more of a natural tip. My ends get dry really easily, so coating them with castor oil is a must for me.

These are pretty much all the things that I should be doing to my hair--it's healthiest when I follow this routine.

I haven't been lately though. :nono: My hair likes Aubrey GPB as its protein treatment.

co-signing. Although I am no longer natural, I never mastered this when I was natural and regrettably went back to relaxing. I plan on transition within the next year or two b/c I do feel that my hair was it healthiest when it was natural.
